In this episode, I continue restoring the companionway stairs aboard my Colvic UFO 27 sailboat. This part is all about fine sanding, shaping, and prepping the treads for varnish and final fitting. It’s one of those satisfying jobs that transforms rough, weathered steps into smooth, clean, and sea-ready pieces of teak again. 🎥 Next episode: applying the first coats of marine varnish and re-installing the stairs back aboard. Spent the day at the marina working on my 27-foot Colvic UFO. Pulled out the companionway steps and sanded them back to bare wood, getting them ready for stain and varnish. Another small step in bringing this old boat back to life.

Back on the boat for Episode 2, and things are already getting interesting… I found about a gallon of water sitting behind the front bulkhead up in the bow. Definitely not what I was hoping to see this early on. In this video, I take a closer look at the bow area and try to figure out where that water is coming from — could be rain, a leaky fitting, or something worse. No idea yet, but we’ll start digging. Also got to play with a few new tools I’ve picked up for the refit, which definitely made things a bit more fun (and a bit more chaotic). This refit’s turning into more of an adventure than I expected, but I’m here for it. If you’ve had water issues like this or just enjoy following boat projects, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Thanks for being here.
