This video of my runaway girl crew member was my most viewed video ever as it went viral, but people started reporting it and I had to take it down. This is a safe version to have the story complete. Carla was the girl who came all the way from Argentina to sail with me, but really just wanted a free ticket to Europe. She is still in Spain after 4 years. If you followed my Norwegian videos you have probably already seen some of my fascination for viking history. So when I drove by a Viking museum at Borg in Lofoten I had to make a stop. Little did I know that this was the location of the biggest viking building we have found yet. Here I learned about the craft of the vikings, viking wood crafting, norse mythology and the life of the vikings. To all of us who follows the Vikings series on Netflix, could this have been the home of Earl Borg? The show claims he is from Götaland, but this is place has the name and the glory... Let me know what you think in the comments below. Let me apologize for the filming on this one. The dark indoors at the Viking museum made it hard for the camera stabilization. It is amazing how many beautiful sights you get to see just driving thru Lofoten, so I could not resist filming while driving. Naturally I also made a few stops along the way and got to see some stunning views and taste the local cousine. Let me tell you, if you ever go to Lofoten you need to try the local fish soup! And what about something that reminds us of a tropical beach in the arctic as I show you Ramberg beach. Probably the most beautiful beach you would never swim. What to see in Lofoten - Norwegian fishing history at Å Fishing Village Museum I took the ferry from Bodø to Lofoten and visit the Fishing Village Museum in Å to see how the fishermen used to live back in the days when they travelled far to join the winter fishing in Lofoten for the cod. It was very interesting and I got to learn about the cod liver production, how fishermen used to sleep in or under their boats in the midle of the cold winter nights and I got to see their boats and equipment. Kjerringøy is a typical summer paradise in northern Norway and should definitely be on your what to do in Bodo list. Kjerringoy has some of the most beautiful beaches in Norway and is one of many recommended tourist destinations in Norway. If you ever visit Bodø this should be on your what to see in Bodo list. For Norwegian viewers: Strendene på Kjerringøy er helt fantastiske, og i magisk lys fanget jeg dette med drona i denne filmen. Jeg fikk også en liten rundtur på Kjerringøy Rorbusenter. Tom Cruise filming crazy stunts for Mission Impossible 7 in Norway where he rides a motorbike off the cliff of a 1200 meter high mountain with a parachute on his back. Tom Cruise Mission Impossible 7 is the new video planned for release in November 2021 and the filming is going on right now. The motorcycle cliff jump is done here at Hellesylt and it is rumored that Tom Cruise's character Ethan Hunt at IMF will be landing from this jump on a rolling train on the top of an old bridge. The landing sequence is also filmed in Norway at Åndalsnes. Hellesylt is about an hour drive from where my father lives, so I got in the car and drove there to check it out. I got to see Tom Cruise parachuting from helicopters, probably to do additional film sequences. Saltstraumen is the world strongest tidal current which moves up to 20 knots and moves up to 400 million cubic metres (110 billion US gallons) of seawater through a 150-metre wide strait every six hours. It also creates giant whirlpools of up to 10 meters in diameter and 5 meters deep. Previously on Sail Mermaid I teamed up with the crew from "In the same boat" to help clean the shore from the plastic crisis in the ocean on the coast of Norway. Check out that video on: https://youtu.be/sEMWO8Yp-N8 In this video I sit down and talk to Rolf, the leader of "In The Same Boat" about how they run their operations, what challenges they are facing cleaning the archipelago of plastic pollution, fundraising and much more. Here is the list of topics we covered: 00:00 Recap of last episode collecting a big net stuck in vegitation 00:27 Sail Mermaid intro 00:45 Introducing Rolf-örjan Högset and the project named "In The Same Boat" 01:38 The Volunteers, where do they come from, the job they do, how they are motivated and rewarded. 04:00 Where does the plastic come from? Is it local pollution or marine debris that traveled with the Gulf Stream? 04:50 80% of the local plastic waste comes from the fishing industry 05:36 The use of the ocean as a big trash can is changing for the better 05:56 More old plastic waste in the sea means we are polluting less now. This can be analyzed by reading date stamps on plastic bottles etc. This gives hope for the future! 06:30 We will have to clean beaches for many years to come 06:44 There is not good enough systems for delivery of plastic waste even if this is required by law. We need better systems to make sure people and industrial users will comply with regulations 07:52 The challenge funding beach cleaning and the fight over money within environmental organizations 09:13 This crew of 12 people collected 20 tons of plastic in 8 days! 09:40 The cost of delivering 20 tons of plastic waste - even for volunteer organizations 11:20 Who should pay to clean our shores? 11:48 Is this a vendetta against the use of plastic products? 12:30 The microplastic from washing our clothes. 13:31 Microplastic vs the plastic we can see. Which affects us the most? 14:05 Why most people don't realize how big this problem is 14:39 How can people sign up to volunteer 15:15 Young Adults Living in tight quarters, friendship, drama and learning to live sustainably 16:40 Adapting and learning to tolerate other cultures and opinions 16:52 How to support "In The Same Boat" financially to help them continue cleaning the archipelago of marine debris and plastic litter 17:19 closing it up... 18:07 Outro This video has no mid-roll ads as I find them terribly annoying. This video is about ocean plastic pollution cleanup, cleaning beaches from plastic in the Norwegian archipelago, marine litter and volunteer crew cleaning beaches from marine debris. I have never been an environmentalist and I am not a big fan of the man made climate hysteria. I think the media and our politicians are hyping up a demon that isn't really there. I am not sure why, but there is no question there is money in it somewhere. Climate change is not a new thing. Climate has always been changing and will continue to do so no matter how much taxes we pay and what cars we drive. Scientists agrees that the climate is changing, but it is the politicians and the media who claims this is a man made climate change, not the mass of scientists. In the meantime the elite doesn't focus much on the evil plastic problem we all can see. The over consumption of plastic and how we deal with the waste. No one ever said plastic is good for our nature as far as I know. We can all agree on this, so why can we not focus on this and make a change, together? I was first made aware of the plastic pollution problem when I sailed to Morocco and could see with my own eyes how the beaches there was swamped with plastic litter. Not just the beaches actually, also the fields were full of plastic waste. I also heard we had a huge problem in our Norwegian archipelago so I decided to join the crew from "in the same boat" to see with my own eyes if this is such a huge problem as they say. Then film it and give them a hand. Here is the result of my video, and I hope you will enjoy it and maybe it will be an eye opener to you as well as it was for me? We need to stop polluting! 01:45 Plastic tools wrapped in plastic only for display at hardware stores 02:09 In The Same Boat - Volunteer ocean plastic cleanup crew. Volunteers picking plastic. 02:28 Amazing boat ride in the beautiful archipelago of Northern Norway 04:18 Captains exchange information about plastic debris hot spots 05:29 We land at our hot spot where we find a huge fishing net and start picking plastic 06:25 I share my toughts on why I am making a video about Marine Debris and plastic pollution 08:04 First reaction on all the plastic litter we found in such a small area 08:57 Much of the plastic we find comes from the fishing industry 09:20 This is not a dumpster! Crazy amounts of plastic everywhere! 09:37 Rolf explains about their plastic finds 11:05 Rolf talks about the small pieces of micro plastic called nurdles that you may find in the seaweed and all around 11:50 The crew brings the big fishing net back on the boat, working together as a team! 12:10 The beautiful landscape we want to see vs the plastic polluted reality 13:15 Shocking! This is how much plastic 3 people collected in 30 minutes within a 50 meter radius 13:48 We make a fire and have stick breads for lunch in these picturesque surroundings 14:38 Filling up the boats with the collected plastic waste 16:05 We transport the catch of the day back to the plastic land filling 17:27 The gigantic pile of plastic this crew has collected in 8 days is amazing! This episodes gets a flying start with a BBQ at the arctic circle in an amazing norwegian scenery. It was only 10 degrees celsius on the 4.th of June and a lot of snow, but the sun was up and I pored up a glass of Rose wine and enjoyed the view and the late night sun in the beautiful land of the midnight sun. I then give you a fast driving roadtrip where we even spot reindeer by the road on my way up to Sørarnøy where I meet the crew from "In the same boat". Thru a facebook group I had been tipped off about this project named «In the same boat» who is collecting plastic on the coast of Norway. It sounded like a really interesting project and I wanted to see with my own eyes how thy work and if this problem is as huge as I was told. I made contact with the leader of this group and Rolf invited me to join them for a day to film. For me this was a real treat. I got to spend a day in this amazing archipelago, I got to meet a bunch of enthusiastic and dedicated people I got to learn something important and I got a great story to share with you guys! But before I could join them picking plastic I had to prove myself worthy by having a special shot. It was very strong, but not from alcohol? When the crew heard I was a chef they asked if I could cook for them. At first I was a bit hesitant, after all I was on vacation! But after seeing what an amazing job they did I could not say no. We got a boat neighbor to fish for us and I prepared it for them with a few helpers from the crew. Since they are living in 2 crowded sailboats it is not easy to cook one meal for all, so I had to make it simple. Wrapping fish in foil for the BBQ is an easy way of doing it, and I made a special sauce recipe of mine which they seemed to like. I made plenty, but there was nothing left! Next episode will be dedicated to picking plastic in the archipelago of the Helgeland coastline. This was a real eye opener for me and probably my best video yet in my opinion, so do not miss out.
