We went out early because I knew in the afternoon the wind would be gone but the wind died down earlier than expected. I dropped the sails and jumped in the water for my first swim off the boat. My dad is 86 years old but still very capable both physically and mentally and we have a lot in common, spending time with him is something I cherish. In this episode I introduce the First Mate to sailing. This was Fatima's first time on our sailboat and her first time using a tiller. We had a nice day with average winds which was good for me to explain how the sheets, sails and wind vane work in conjunction with the wind. With a little apprehension I cast off the lines and move away from the dock under power for my first solo sail on my Precision 21 sailboat. Soon I had the main sail up and was sailing in the Barnegat Bay all by myself with just the sound of the wind pushing me. The amazing feeling of hearing only the sound of the wind and waves was one I had been preparing for a long time but it was soon shattered with lots of power boats rushing at me and cutting across the stern and bow. Serenity returned and after about two hours of sailing I returned to the marina with a very happy smile on my face. Mission accomplished. We finally have splash day. After completing most of the work at home and painting the boat with antifouling at the Cedar Creek Marina, I only had to install the motor and rudder and then the boat was lifted and put in the water. I then moved the boat to the "Up the Creek Marina" next door where it will be based. Next I will replace all the lines and halyards and install the sails and then I can go sailing. Spring finally arrived and with it started the work on the Precision 21. This boat had been sitting in a backyard uncovered for a few years and was in need of a good clean and polish. There were a few parts that needed to be replaced too. The removal and varnishing of the wooden parts took the longest to finish. After getting all new lines and an anchor the boat was finally moved to the marina for the final steps. In this episode Jim and I charter the sailing school's O'Day 23 for two weekends to gain experience and put time in the water. Every adventure has a beginning and this channel will document my new adventure on the water. This is my life and my story! I have been adventuring on motorcycles for a long time and have completed most of the motorcycle items on my bucket list. I rode my motorcycle across the USA from East to West, North to South, went all the way north to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and finally all the way south across the continent to Ushuaia, Argentina. In 2020 with the Covid pandemic in full force I visited a sailing school and signed up for the ASA101 class.
