The past few months in Italy have been amazing....friends, family, training, drinking, sailing! But now our friends have all left, the weather is turning chilly, and tomorrow the time has finally come to cast off the lines and sail into the sunset. When you do something as crazy as leaving your life, taking your two loves and three kittens, packing them onto a small sailboat and heading off from Italy to the southern Pacific over 9 months and 15,000 kilometers to see a total solar eclipse lasting 4 minutes 20 seconds in the middle of the ocean.....well, you tend to get a lot of questions. Ciao Y'all! Thanks for stopping by the very first real video in our new series, An Endless Wake! We're three cats and three queers in love with life, living and each other, sailing together around the world on the good ship Wake! Our catchy mission: Chasing Atlantis... Finding the lost ideal in the wind, waves and the endless summer with Kitty (Cat wrangler and Philosopher-in-Chief), Cristina (Fixer, Commander of nudity and possibly Russian spy), and Davi (Captain of cursing, the wet bar, and occasionally the boat). Our more realistic mission: Three ordinary people trying to make a life together in a different way while not killing each other on a small sailboat as kittens poop in our shoes. Join us as we cast off the lines of convention and society, hoist our sails and take to the high seas to meet strange new people, find amazing places, dive, cook, drink (lots of drinking). Hell, we even play Canasta if the mood is right! What more could you ask for ... pretty much anything that makes life fun is fair game for us. After all, as the Chinese say: Enjoy yourself! It's later than you think. First up, the Mother Voyage, from Italy into the heart of the South Pacific to meet the total solar eclipse of 2019! In between, 15000 kilometers of ocean and islands filled with crazy people, crazier adventures, lots of love, laughs and alcohol.... Come along! There are two parts to this silly story you gotta know: 1) Our darling wife/partner Kitty had been gone a few weeks on vacation, and 2) there is tiny red submarine that lives in Portovenere. Each time we anchored offshore, there it came, cute as could be, back and forth, day and night, buzzing us while we'd toast the happy people onboard with raised glasses of prosecco from our sundeck. Always looked like great fun, but we'd never gotten around to it. With the three of us and the three kittens, plus the whole sailing thing, there were always other things to do.... Well, Cristina is a die-hard romantic, so to surprise her little lovecat on her return, she hooked up something very special....a private ride with Roberto and his glass-bottomed Nemo Sub! It was amazing... He came round just before the sun went down and took us to grottos and caves, all around the beautiful bay under that spectacular falling sun, all with a bottle of prosecco in hand! If you are near Cinque Terre (Portovenere specifically), find him! He speaks fluent English, knows everything, and is a real gentleman to boot. This is our first video with some new gyroscopic gear--let us know what you think! Having fun on the good ship Wake... Cristina learns to dive!! Just having a little fun trying out new angles and camera techniques to film our upcoming series: Chasing Atlantis! We'll be off to the middle of the South Pacific in a few months, until then, come join us as we learn the ins and outs of our new boat, sail around, goof off, and drink a bunch of Prosecco! With all the preparations having to be done to our beloved Wake (not to mention to us) before heading out into the wild blue to chase that eclipse, going far and going free is not in the cards quite yet....so I thought back on our inaugural sail home back in February, from Mallorca to Italy, and the three separate pods of dolphins that kept up with us for hours, dancing on the surface of the water.
