2 March 2025 and the first sail of the season.... what a beautiful day for a wee shakedown sail in the Largs Channel, just outside Largs Yacht Haven. Hope to see you out there this season..?
A lovely passage through the Crinan Canal, Scotland. Early May 2024 Day 1 From the Sea Lock at Crinan, through locks 15 & 14 and the Crinan Swing Bridge to meet our Canal Pilot, Peter at the Pontoon at Lock 13. We travelled up through Locks 13, 12, 11, 10 & 9 for our first overnight stop at the Pontoon just after Lock 9. Day 2 From Lock 9, we travelled down through Locks 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 & 2 to the Ardrishaig Basin where we spent our second night. Day 3 We were the first boat out at 0830 and off back to Largs Yacht Haven. We really enjoyed the transit through the Canal, all the staff were very helpful and friendly. We paid and sorted the licence at the office in Crinan when tied up in Lock 15 [Sea Lock]. The canal was quiet with not many boats travelling from Crinan to Ardrishaig and so we had all the locks to ourselves which I imagine makes it easier. The canal really forces you to slow down and enjoy all the beautiful scenery and surroundings as well as listening to all the wildlife and birdsong. We found the locks going down [8 to Ardrishaig] very straightforward, where you had to let out the lines. It was slightly more involved going from locks 15 to 9 [but still straightforward] where you feel the turbulence from the locks filling. The Canal staff radioed ahead to alert the next keeper to raise the bridges or prepare the lock. The website for Scottish Canals www.scottishcanals.co.uk has everything you need to make the passage including a comprehensive Skipper's Guide. Thanks for watching ? Sula Hanse 385 [2013]

I have been meaning to spend the night on anchor for some time and this was the first time. Loch Riddon (Loch Ruel) is a beautiful spot and the cool damp weather was a welcome change to the heatwave earlier in the week. Sula is a Hanse 385 (2013). thanks for watching ?
This was the first proper sail of the season and I decided to sail around the Isle of Arran, Scotland, from Largs Yacht Haven. Heading down the East coast first, past Holy Isle and Pladda Island and then up the Kilbrannan Sound, past Lochranza and back across through the Cumbraes to Largs. Was a longer and more challenging solo sail for me and looking forward to getting out again. Sula is a Hanse 385 (2013). thanks for watching.
Learning to fly the asymmetric spinnaker, we had some issues with the gybe but looking forward to getting out again soon for some more practice. Sailing Sula, a Hanse 385 on the west coast of Scotland. We bought the sail from Saturn Sails in Largs.
[Ep 9] Flotilla on the Clyde, sailing around Cumbrae, west coast of Scotland and ditching the drone!
A beautiful day sailing around Cumbrae in the Clyde on the west coast of Scotland from Largs on Sula, a Hanse 385. We managed to get some nice drone footage of the SCS Flotilla going from Kip around Cumbrae to Holy Loch. We anchored at Millport for a swim and returned back to Largs for dinner.
I managed to get out for a lovely sail to Holy Loch Marina from Largs Yacht Haven. Singlehanded sailing, West Coast of Scotland and a very quick tour below deck. Sula is a Hanse 385 (2013)
We collect our new boat, Sula, a Hanse 385, from Shieldaig and sail her back down the West coast of Scotland to Largs, 260 nautical miles. This episode takes us from Oban (Kerrera) to Largs, the last 4 days of our 7 day trip in July 2020. Out of Oban Marina we sail through the Sound of Kerrera and the Sound of Luing to Craighouse, Jura. From Jura we sail to Port Ellen on Islay and on past the Mull of Kintyre to a mooring buoy at Lamlash on Arran. From Lamlash it's a short sail back to Largs. It was a challenging trip for relative beginners and we were delighted to make it safely to Largs. Hope you enjoy. Sula is a Hanse 385 (2013)
[Ep1] Sailing Shieldaig to the Isle of Kerrera, West coast of Scotland and my first sail as skipper.
We collect our new boat, Sula, a Hanse 385, from Shieldaig and sail her back down the West coast of Scotland to Largs, 260 nautical miles. This episode takes us from Shieldaig to the Isle of Kerrera (Oban), the first 3 days of our 7 day trip in July 2020. Out of Loch Torridon we sailed South past Skye, through the Kyle Rhea, around the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, down the Sound of Mull and across the Firth of Lorn. We were more focused on the challenge of sailing and navigation but managed to get a few nice shots. Hope you enjoy. Sula is a Hanse 385 (2013)
I managed to squeeze in a last sail of the year before lockdown restrictions came in to force. Rhu Marina is an easy journey up the Clyde from Largs. The weather was beautiful, still but cold. December 23, 2020.
