This video was recorded back in July 2023, after we got back from Norway. Soon after, even though our plans were to stay in the marina for few moths at least until the winter arrives, a great business opportunity was sent our way 🙏 , one we couldn't turn down. This resulted in our loooong absence from the marina. We did pop in here and there very briefly, but for the most part we focused on work. I am uploading this video from Fambridge, sitting on board Byvind and the sun shines like mad, which is quite unusual for UK these days. But anyway, what I am trying to hint at is the fact that we are here with Squalo looking out of the shed and we have been taking good care of here. Works have commenced, but how long for..? We learn about the Sicomin Epoxy Expanding Foam and decide it will be most suitable product to use for filling that empty sump tank inside the keel. We create structural stiffeners (can't think of a better name for it ;) ) between the layers of the foam to further strengthen the keel. #boatrefit #boatproject #diyboat #oysteryachts #boatyard

Nevertheless, we feel we are making progress. We continue with closing off the openings we had to make within the keel sump tank to carry out the repairs. We try to make that keel stronger than ever. We then leave for work but unfortunately weren't able to return to boatyard for another 2 weeks. So we really were looking forward to the few hours we had this Sunday gone. We planned to lay few layers of fibreglass and test the electrical panel. During this short visit we find yet another problem with the keel, this time we suspect water has penetrated into the laminate. #yachtrefit #boating #boatyard #boatrefit #sailingyacht

When repairing our keel we discover something is not quite right. Well, discover is perhaps a bit of a lie. We did spot that unusually dark spot at the bottom of the keel, however up until now we kind of dismissed it..but it was in the back of our mind. I think we were just worried that digging deeper will open a can of worms. It feels like this "sump tank" and all that business with the oil has been haunting us from day 1. We can't ignore it any longer... Something has to be done about it, and awe have to do it right.
