In this video we install a brand new MANSHIP deck hatch! Like every boat project however, there is only tiny snag. The old hatch has a slightly smaller footprint than our new one! This may not seem like a big deal on the surface...but once we got into the meat of the project it became clear quickly that some modifications needed to be done to our boat, and we needed to make a trim ring to accommodate the new hatch! This was not fault of the hatch, and to be fair...the measurements on each are equal...what was not done well on our boat was how the original manufactured hatch was installed. It was screwed in, and done with very little care to water intrusion in the future. So...we fixed it. All of it. Yep, the 2 day job turned into 6....but in the end we have a gorgeous result and a hatch that will not leak...but better yet? Will be MUCH easier to remove and maintain in the future! If you are interested in upgrading your current hatches on your sailboat or powerboat, you should check out Marine Depot! https://www.marinedepotdirect.com/regular-profile-deck-hatches-inside-outside-opening.html Enter MDPapillon15 at checkout for 15% off! ***The hatch in this video was given to us from MARINE DEPOT, in exchange for creating this video, we hope its useful and helps other viewers to see an install from start to finish!*** *Music created using OpenMusic: https://www.openmusic.ai/ CHAPTERS: 00:00:00 NEW HATCH 00:00:03 INTRO 00:00:43 SCRAPING UNDER THE HATCH 00:00:29 UNSCREWING THE OLD HATCH 00:00:55 WHAT ARE WE DOING EXACTLY? 00:00:46 INTRO SONG FINISH 00:04:09 DESCRIBING THE ISSUES 00:07:37 REMOVING TIME LAPSE 00:08:26 DESCRIPTION OF THE MAJOR ISSUE AND OUR IDEA 00:11:11 ENTIRE PROCESS TIME LAPSE 00:14:58 FINISHED INSTALL 00:15:45 HATCH REVEAL 00:17:01 THANK YOU TO MARINE DEPOT

This new video is the completion of us putting our interior salon back together! Some things that made the job extra tricky because of where we are: 1. FORMICA is something we needed to bring to the boat, as it is NOT sold in MEXICO. The Formica for this job was driven to the boat a YEAR earlier in prep for what was to come. We needed to order a router and special bits that could cut the Formica too. Travis has a full workshop in Texas, and my dad (mom) does too...so it was always a thought of "if only we were back in TEXAS"...LOL. The Formica...measure 10x and cut 1x. We felt it, and Travis did a brilliant job! 2. We did not label all pieces of wood trim that needed labeling, which made the putting it all back together all the more laborsome. 3. The furring strips on the starboard side needed redoing entirely, because that side the originals were rotten. Travis and I...learned a new skill we did not know we needed. Who knew! 4. All of those teak pieces of trim needed and indeed cut cut exactly to their new shape (old chainplates were slightly smaller in all directions!). This...took more time too. 5. The material for the ceiling was also brought to the boat a year before...it is foam backed vinyl! A wonderful wonderful material and it was so easy to use and install! (We bought it on Amazon!). WE WILL get this boat of ours launched and under sail soon...we certainly did not know we were buying such a project boat when we did, but one day she will be as perfect as she can be, and we will bask in the glow of an a job well done, and stories to tell! Chapters: 00:24 Paint begins 01:00 Measuring counter top hull/interior piece 02:08 Final fitting 02:36 Explaining the Formica is next to install 02:55 Cutting the Formica 03:53 Installing the Formica with contact cement 04:20 Final cutting of the Formica 04:50 Sorting the teak slats to re-install 05:32 Putting the teak slats up on the wall FINALLY! 06:33 Cutting a hole in the Formica for water tank deck hose 07:31 Fitting in the cabinets! 08:31 Installing the old furring strips for the ceiling panel 10:17 Angle grinder to cut off bolts to our sail track 10:36 Fabricating our headliner by the pool 10:52 Headliner going UP! 11:35 Headliner lights being installed 12:16 Coming next... 13:31 Outtakes

Something I do not usually talk about...something personal to me, deeply personal. My why. Why a sailboat. Why now. I suppose it was ingrained in me since a child. My parents waited, I wish they hadn't. I would have had an ENTIRELY different childhood. I am not saying the one I had was BAD...rather the opposite. It set me up for where I am today. Chasing dreams that are FAR larger than myself. Sailboats are not just a FAD for me. They are my life. Life style. ALL of it. If you are wanting to pursue your passions, my suggesting is not to wait. GO for it, today! This is a sentimental video for my dad, who passed 18yrs ago today. He was a big game fish in the marine industry where I am from, and is missed by so many. The song? Elmers tune, by Glen Miller. YT may strike it...but heck, I love it. Because, he loved it. The thumbnail? A scan of a very old test sheet of photo paper I printed back on film in College...I believe they were 5 second bursts at the time! The image was of my dad and my first sailboat. A 1964 Pearson Vanguard...we restored it together at his shop. Fond memories. Again, it is my WHY. If you made it this far reading, bless you and thank you! Cheers!

It has been a hot minute since we last posted a video, we have missed you all! We've been busy making that money to keep funding the refit, and it has been an absolute wild ride into 2026! In this episode we step back into time...August of 2025 to be exact! We have just completed the ENTIRE CHAINPLATE INSTALL & are now beginning to put our interior back together! This of course means, trimming our teak to fit the new size (ever so slight) larger chainplates...and all that goes with it. All the teak that had spent years getting damp from leaks had to be stripped and refinished. Please enjoy this episode, as it is going to be ONLY part 1 of likely several videos--Reconstruction of our salon interior. Travis has had a large hand in the making of this video, he has done all of the 360 footage stitching! It is pretty cool, I must say...very nifty camera we will be using more in future videos! If you enjoyed this video, or would like to see anything in detail of the work we do, just let us know! Chapters: 00:16 Departing Texas 2:29 Arriving in Tapachula 3:00 Demolition of teak 3:30 Teak repair begins 5:41 Templating trimming teak knees 9:43 Epifanes varnish begins 12:07 Surprise scorpion 12:30 Varnish being finished 13:14 Outakes & whats next Cheers! Life update: It has been 7 months now since we have been to PAPILLON. This makes both of us very home sick and sad. We took a while getting this video made as life has thrown us lots of curve balls as of late. This video catches you up on us departing MEXICO & PAPILLON, as we take the long way around to sell travis's JEEP in Guatemala and visit a wonderful place called Lake Atitlán! Several weddings later to earn some more money for the kitty we get a call...to help a friend drive his van from Seattle to Alaska! Of course we said yes...a WILD adventure to follow...and plans are being made currently to get back to Papillon next month (August), and decisions will be made to go SOUTH through PANAMA or NORTH to ALASKA!! How long does it actually take to accomplish (1) task on sailboat? This video we showcase just that. ONE job, and we filmed it as a side X side view point. Ashley working & Travis working TOGETHER. Is it pretty? NOPE! Glamorous? HECK NO. It is however, REALITY. What jobs do you find to be quick and easy on your sailboat? We'd love to hear your stories!

You guys have found the next video...and it is many MORE sailboat projects continued...does the list ever end? Feels like it does not...but we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Also...this video is a shining example of why the sailing community is WHERE YOU WANT TO BE. Where else in the world can you meet perfectly good strangers one day and the next they are drinking beers and helping you with the NASTY job of grinding fiberglass and painting YOUR boat in the heat! LARGE shout out to Alex & Caleb on this video! Cheers! Got no beard: https://youtube.com/@thelongestjohns?si=UV7vX-AJML8EO9Y-

Reminiscent of "wax on, wax off"! This video is straight to the point, of repair work. We dive in and Travis tackles the largest hole yet in our DECK! This hole was brought to us by a very leaky cleat...said leak originated for us while underway from Costa Rica to Mexico. We are used to the grind by now, and this job is no exception! Grind, epoxy, lay glass and repeat. Ashley jumps in on the ever growing project of the rub rail...and also begins stripping, sanding and varnishing (next episode) the cockpit table! Going back in time a bit, the rubrail removal was necessary to access the bolts for the chainplates...but instead of putting it all back together as is, we are taking the time to clean, polish, sand and make sure it all goes back on smoothly and looks better than ever! It is approx. 60' in teak, 50' in stainless, 140 screw holes in the boat, and more for the stainless! Roll your sleeves up and lets go!
