This is a little video about JellyBean, our beautiful adopted Maltese who is nearly 17 (we think), and Shane. While editing this video, which is an Ode to JB, I laughed and I cried, got attached to the footage sometimes a bit too much...it is a sweet story about a very tall man and his tiny dog. I hope you enjoy it, Mimi x PS : Leave us a comment and give us a like :) thank you x #sailingwithdog #sailingmahina #sailing #lutruwita #brunyisland #adventurebay #sailinglife #sailingadventures #sailingboat #maltese #tasmania

This past year has been so busy that I didn't have time to edit videos, but I couldn't help posting this one. This was such a special day swimming with turtles (not on this video), we are so lucky to live the life we want and cannot wait to go again exploring.

In this episode we finally arrive at beautiful Lady Musgrave. Absolute paradise. Lady Musgrave Island is a 14 hectares (35 acres) coral cay on Australia's Great Barrier Reef, with a 1,192 hectares (2,950 acres) surrounding reef. We meet up with our friends, go snorkelling and Shane catches fish. It was so wonderful to be surrounded by so much beauty. As we sailed from Mooloolaba to the Wide Bay Bar crossing, we encountered some confused seas. Mahina suffered the consequences with a major breakage. Then, going through the Sandy Straits the next day, we ran aground just before low tide and we were obliged to sit it out for a few long hours until the tide was high enough for us to break free. I have to say it was a very stressful time for me (Mimi) and my anxiety went through the roof...I filmed myself with my I-phone to help deal with it, like a diary. I didn't intend to put it on here (I much prefer being behind the camera!!) but in the end I thought it was important to share the lows as much as the highs. It was the first time I experienced such force with strong winds and waves rocking the boat while being aground. But in the end, we finally got to our destination and it was paradise on earth. I think it was well worth all the troubles along the way. Shane wrote a beautiful poem at the end of the video as he has been doing with each episode. It is very poignant. The day of our departure from 'normal life'. After four years of shake-down sails, seemingly endless boat work and working for a living, 2020 steered us into an early departure. We hope in this video to capture some of the emotions that we felt when our day to leave Brisbane finally arrived, and we cast off our securities into the cruising life for a sabbatical in northern waters of Queensland. However Moreton Bay had other ideas... Warm nautical greetings from Shane, Mimi and Jellybean, and thank you for joining us on our adventures aboard our beloved sailing boat, Mahina. Mahina means 'Moon' in the Pacific Islands of Polynesia and we love this name because the moon figures so much in our life. Since we started living on the water it seems that we are in constant contact with the natural world around us, and the moon and her silvery reflection keep us company when we're on night passages or popping up on deck to wonder anew at the beauty of our 'back yard'. Shane is a Kiwi (New Zealander), Mimi was born in Brittany (France) and Jellybean has a proud lineage that goes back to her seafaring ancestors in Malta. But all three of us are lucky to live in Australia, a place of wonder and natural vibrancy that never ceases to amaze us. We hope that we have captured some of the essence of this beautiful and sometimes harsh environment that we call home and what it's like to live on Mahina as full-time mariners.

This lighthouse, built in 1868, was the first to be built by the Queensland Government. It was built by Hennet & Spink in Bridgwater, UK, and the cast iron sections were shipped here and reassembled. We were able to view its light from at least 20NM out at sea when sailing in from the Capricornia Island Group. The lighthouse keeper Stuart Buchanan is rightly passionate about this beautiful structure and has dedicated substantial portions of his life to its upkeep and improvements. Thank you Stuart for humoring a fellow yachty and allowing us to capture this footage.

We are so lucky to have such a beautiful sailing ground near Brisbane in Moreton Bay, with Stradbroke Island, Moreton Island, Peel Island and lots of other little islands. Music from a wonderful Australian artist Liam Wright, with a song called Castaway. Leave us a comment below to let us know you have been here. Thank you XX

This is the story of Jellybean the Maltese who goes on a sailing holiday in Moreton Bay, Australia, with two of her favorite people. She proves herself to be an excellent Sea Dog on the sailing vessel Mahina. People adore Jellybean wherever she goes, and she does lots of beach exploring and riding in Maggie, the dinghy. Jellybean lives in Brisbane on the sailing vessel Mahina with her adopted parents Shane and Mimi. She loves the visits from her other beautiful mum Jojo, who also lives on a boat in the Brisbane River. You can follow her adventures on Instagram, links below.
