Sailing from Indonesia to Australia (Thursday Island).
Rob gives some examples of things you might think about taking when sailing to remote islands. Specifically he talks about items that can make a positive impact to the lives of the locals.
in this week's Sailing Jaygo video we clear Quarantine, Customs, Immigration & Harbour Master in Saumlaki, Indonesia. Many sailors use an agent to smooth this process, but where is the fun in that? We also donate some school supplies & a soccer ball to a local school.
This week we show PART 2 of our Sailing Passage from Indonesia to Australia, showing typical life onboard for us as we handle our watches. We explain why we took the route we did, and show the weather conditions we experienced. We also explain our sail plan. If you missed PART 1 it is here https://youtu.be/KSracpN9C4U
In this weeks video we sail our Amel Super Maramu, JAYGO, from Indonesia to Australia. We have to take the last of the Monsoon westerlies but not too early in case we strike a late season cyclone. We dodge squalls & lightning storms along the way but get a pretty good run in the end. This is Part 1 of our passage.
In this week's sailing video we clean up the growth on Jaygo's hull. The water in Bali is so hot & full of "nutrients", it makes for the perfect environment for marine growth. We also make a quick trip to Manila to do a "visa run" as we have to leave Indonesia to renew our visas. Dee give a bit of background to the visitor visas for Indonesia.
In this week's sailing video Rob FINALLY repairs the Water Maker on Jaygo. He speaks about his experience with FilmTec RO membranes and shows the problems that we have had. We also visit the Bali Sailing Centre which is run by the AMAZING Pak Kiki. Kiki works tirelessly to teach sailing to people who in many cases would not get the opportunity. His Sailing Centre caters for all ages from 7 to 80 and all levels of experience, but his real passion is for teaching the local Indonesian kids. Dee also gets fed up with her long hair in the Indonesian summer and visits the hairdresser to take drastic action.
In this week’s sailing video we don’t actually sail anywhere! We snorkel & surf, check out the local Warungs, and then head to the mountains of North Bali where we were honoured to to attend as special guests at a Traditional Balinese wedding.
In this week’s sailing video Jaygo is in Serangan Harbour, Bali, Indonesia. Plastic pollution is a major problem in the waterways here. Dee has to deal with a medical issue that turns out to be a bigger deal than first thought. The monsoon starts & the delay totally scuppers our plans to continue north to Malaysia, Singapore & Thailand this season.
In this weeks Sailing video, Jaygo is the victim of a lightning strike in Indonesia. Rob troubleshoots the damaged electronics to try to work out what components were cooked. Sourcing spare parts was a problem! Thanks again for watching our Sailing Channel. Sorry for the delay between videos as we have had a bit on!
This week we visit Serangan, Canggu, Ubud & Uluwatu on the Indonesian island of Bali. We do the usual touristy stuff that is very different to how we normally experience other cultures while sailing Jaygo. A fair bit is crammed into this video, but it gives a bit of a taste of our visit there.
In this weeks sailing video we continue West & sail to Nusa Lembongan. Although Lembongan is very close to Bali, it is WAY quieter. We struggle to work out which of the many mooring balls were the "Free" ones we had heard about. Most were pretty dodgy to say the least.
In this weeks sailing video we visit Gili Aer & the other Gili Islands of Indonesia. We check out the underwater sculptures and swim with the local turtles. We also check out an abandoned village on Gili Asahan. We definitely notice the increased impact of tourism as we get closer to Bali.
In this week's sailing video we swim with Whale Sharks at the Indonesian Island of Sambawa. We then sail on to Lombok to visit some of the most amazing waterfalls. Music “Home” by Elena https://youtu.be/F4wFYRKqgy0?si=N1e6O5EZE7XKDhT-
This Episode Rob discovers the wooden boat building in a remote village while we sail towards Shark Whales.
We sail to 5 diverse Indonesian anchorages in this weeks sailing video. We visit Komodo National Park, including the famous Pink Beach, and the boat gets covered in ash from a nearby erupting volcano. We show you what fishing lure that we use in Indonesia that catches plenty of large fish. Then we visit a local market to reprovision. Finally, we give some school supplies & a soccer ball to some very appreciative village kids.
In this weeks sailing video we sail from the Serai Inar resort off Rote, have a quick stop at Numbrella and then continue up to Sumba on our way to Komodo. Mostly downwind sailing in a light breeze.
Sailing our Amel Super Maramu to a beautiful unknown paradise resort in Indonesia. In this weeks sailing video we sail Jaygo to an amazing hidden resort in Rote, Indonesia. We have some rough seas & weather on the way and meet a couple of amazing people who run Serai Inar resort on Landu island who live a way of life WAY off the hamster wheel. This week we tweak the rig tension and the mainsail luff tension on our Amel Super Maramu ketch on an overnight sail down to Kupang.
We sail an overnight passage from Wakatobi down to Sabu. Dee decides to break the cardinal rule of not going overboard while underway, & shows just how dangerous this is. We also got a bit complacent in very light weather & almost cleaned up a Pearl Farm, giving the workers there a couple of mild heart attacks! We visit Lewoleba to reprovision & gift a new Soccer Ball to some very appreciative local kids.
