Ep 28: We kitesurf and wingfoil near Pele Island, joining the locals for Vanuatu Independence Day Celebrations. We sail back to Havannah Harbour to hide out from some weather, which changed our pick up location for Rachael's parents' visit. We cruise Havannah Harbour and Moso Island with them, before returning to Port Vila to prepare for our next passage to New Caledonia.
Ep 27: We Sail North from Malekula, and mission up to the Blue Holes in Santo island. We are lucky enough to have Rachael's sister join us, and we find a weather window for a fast-paced trip back to the Island of Efate, where we sweep through the Melanesian Cultural Festival before she flies home to NZ.
Ep 26: We sail from Epi Island to Malekula Island in Vanuatu, where we find a not-so-well-known escape to beautiful waterfalls - the Losenwei Cascades hike - an experience we can't recommend enough!
Ep 25: We sail from the Tanna Island volcano to the Capital City of Port Vila, where we are able to restock with food and get internet for the first time since Fiji! We enjoy the local fire show and the yacht club bar, and set sail Northwards - through Port Havannah with it's serious shipwreck, and onwards to Lamen Bay on Epi Island - where we have some great experiences visiting a local village.
Ep 24: We sail from Aneityum in the South of Vanuatu, to Port Resolution at Tanna Island, and have a blast visiting Mount Yasur, one of Vanuatu's active volcano's.
Ep 23. After sailing across from Fiji in May 2023, this is our first taste of Vanuatu, in the Southern anchorage of Mystery Island, on Aneityum.
We kick off our second cruising season with a passage from Fiji to Aneityum, Vanuatu - a difficult Port to gain approval to clear in to. This vid shows some of our passage preparation and passage experiences!
Ep 21. As first year cruisers - we decided to stay in Fiji for the 2022-2023 cyclone season. Here's a bit of the good, the bad, and the ugly about the decision we made.
We sail South down the Yasawa and Mamanuca Island chains. From Sawa-I-Lau to Blue Lagoon, down to Waya Island, Kuata Island, Navadra Island, Castaway Island, Mana Island, and finally back to Musket Cove; Malolo Lailai Island. This completes our round trip out East, and will be our 'home base' for the remainder of the cyclone season.
With no updated forecast, we sail from Yadua Island - West to Yasawairara at the top of the Yasawa Islands. We then sail South to Vawa Island, Vunindamanu, and around the Peninsula to Sawa-I-Lau - home of some famous caves.
We sail from Bua Bay to Navi Laca Bay on Yadua Island's East Coast. We then motor to the West Coast to Cukuvou Harbour to await some decent weather to sail on.
We sail from Taveuni Island to Savusavu to provision - where we take a look at some of the yacht damages caused by cyclone Winston. We sail around the coast of Vanua Levu, anchoring in several bays not marked as anchorages on our charts.
We depart Bay of Islands, Vanua Balavu, and sail North West. After anchoring at Nadilo Bay, Quamea Island, we sail to Northern Taveuni Island - where we travel overland to the Bouma National Heritage Park.
We sail from Lomolomo, Vanua Balavu (Northern Lau Group), Fiji, around the northern coastline to 'The Bay of Islands' - an idyllic setting amongst limestone cliffs - with some quirky features.
We sail to Vanua Balavu Island in the Northern Lau Group. We made it to the East side of Fiji! We cruise around the coastline to the town of Lomolomo, where we are welcomed to celebrate in local festivities.
Against our better judgement, we take 'plan B' and sail North to Vanua Levu, and then East to anchor at Paradise Resort in Southern Taveuni. We tank dive 'The Zoo' and 'The Great White Wall' on the Rainbow Reef in the Somosomo Strait, before sailing back across the strait to seek shelter from foul weather in Viani Bay.
We sail from Leluvia to Makogai, rich with history as a leprosy colony - but now a clam farm and turtle hatchery..
We start our trip out East, following the coastline of Viti Levu to Nananu-I-Ra (Volivoli), and then on to Leluvia Island, which has some surprises for us!
We get hauled out for our sail drive repairs, and make some big decisions about what to do for the upcoming cyclone season.
We have engine problems, and dwindling water supplies. We attend Musket Cove Regatta Week while awaiting replacement parts.
