Why Choose a Catamaran for Your Sailing Adventure? Catamarans are ideal for group trips, especially if you want a balance of comfort, space, and fun. Unlike traditional monohull yachts, catamarans have two hulls, providing more stability and a roomier experience on deck. Here’s what makes a skipper a game-changer for your catamaran holiday: Local Expertise: Your skipper knows the ins and outs of the Adriatic, from hidden bays and secret beaches to the best party spots. They’ll customize the route to suit your group's vibe—whether you're after total relaxation or a mix of adventure and nightlife. No Responsibility, All Fun: With the skipper handling the boat, you and your friends can fully immerse yourselves in the experience. Spend your days swimming, exploring coastal villages, or simply lounging on deck with your favorite playlist on. Flexible Itinerary: A skipper can adjust the route as you go. Want to stay an extra day at an island you’ve fallen in love with? No problem. You have the freedom to go with the flow and enjoy the trip at your own pace. The Perfect Day on a Catamaran in Croatia A typical day on a catamaran in Croatia with your friends looks like pure bliss. Here’s how it might unfold: Morning: Wake Up to the Sound of the Sea There’s nothing like waking up on a catamaran, with the gentle sounds of waves lapping against the hull and the sun rising over the Adriatic. Start the day with a refreshing dip in the sea before having a leisurely breakfast on deck. Whether you’re anchored in a quiet bay or docked near a charming coastal village, the day is full of possibilities. Daytime: Explore, Swim, Repeat As your skipper sets sail for the next destination, the day is yours to enjoy. You’ll visit some of Croatia’s most beautiful islands, like Hvar, Vis, or Korčula. Imagine stopping for a swim in secluded coves where the water is so clear it feels like you’re floating in a natural infinity pool. You can snorkel, paddleboard, or just float around, letting the sun and sea wash away your cares. Feeling adventurous? Hop off the boat and explore ancient villages with cobbled streets, vibrant markets, and historic architecture. Or, head inland for a hike to capture stunning panoramic views of the Adriatic. Evening: Sunsets and Seaside Dining As the sun begins to set, gather with your friends on deck to watch the sky turn brilliant shades of pink and orange. It’s the perfect time to enjoy a glass of wine or a cold beer while soaking in the peaceful surroundings. For dinner, you can choose to cook up something simple onboard or, if you’re anchored near a coastal town, head ashore to sample some local Dalmatian cuisine. From freshly grilled fish to traditional peka (slow-cooked meat and vegetables), Croatia offers a mouthwatering array of culinary delights. Night: Stargazing and Chill Vibes After dinner, it’s back to the catamaran for some stargazing. With minimal light pollution, the Adriatic sky comes alive at night. Lay back on the deck, enjoy the sound of the water, and just be present in the moment with your friends. It’s the perfect time for deep conversations, laughter, and bonding—exactly what a friends' getaway is all about. Here are some of the must-see highlights on a catamaran sailing trip: 1. Hvar Island Known for its lively atmosphere and beautiful beaches, Hvar is a must-visit. Spend the day lounging at one of its famous beach clubs, exploring its lavender fields, or hiking up to the historic fortress for panoramic views. In the evening, enjoy a vibrant nightlife scene with bars and restaurants offering amazing sunset views. 2. Vis Island If you’re looking for something more low-key, Vis is a paradise of untouched nature and hidden bays. Its famous Blue Cave on Biševo Island is a must-see, where the sunlight creates a magical blue glow inside the cave. You can also explore secluded beaches and quaint fishing villages that feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle. 3. The Pakleni Islands Just off the coast of Hvar, the Pakleni Islands are perfect for a day of island-hopping. These tiny islands are surrounded by crystal-clear waters, making them ideal for snorkeling, swimming, and beach picnics. 4. Korčula Korčula is one of Croatia’s most charming islands, known for its rich history, wine production, and medieval architecture. You can stroll through the old town’s narrow streets, visit local wineries, and relax on beautiful beaches. Final Thoughts A sailing holiday on a catamaran in Croatia with a skipper is the ultimate way to relax, explore, and bond with friends. From the stunning islands to the effortless luxury of catamaran living, every detail of this experience is designed for pure enjoyment. So grab your friends, pack your bags, and get ready for the sailing trip of a lifetime. Croatia and its over 1,000 islands, some of which are inhabited, began to be a popular sailing destination in the 1980s, and since then its popularity has only grown. It is an understatement to say that it is one of the most beautiful destinations in the Mediterranean. While sailing in Croatia, you will surely find the beach of your dreams and you will be able to explore endlessly and sail in a pleasant climate. Croatia is the pearl of the Adriatic and offers many beautiful landscapes. Halfway between Central Europe and the Mediterranean, it offers thousands of islands and more than 6,000 kilometers of coastline. If you decided to sail Croatian islands you have countless choices for the port of departure: Pula, Zadar, Sukošan, Biograd, Murter and Šibenik, Trogir, Split, Dubrovnik, just to name a few of the places where charter companies are located. If you started your vacation in Croatia from the north, with a beautiful rented sailboat from Pula, don’t forget that Pula is one of the safest ports in Croatia. Do not miss the opportunity to visit ancient places in Pula, especially the Roman amphitheater. Two other must-see destinations are Poreč, surrounded by green bays, and Rovinj, with its spectacular indented coastline characterized by rocks, a fishing harbor and small beaches that are always different from each other. Recommendation: don’t leave Rovinj without trying fuži, typical regional pasta with clam sauce, Istrian prosciutto and sugar cookies, crispy biscuits sprinkled with sugar. Biograd, on the other hand, is in central Croatian coast and enables navigation to Kornati. The islands are limestone and sparsely populated, ideal for peaceful and pleasant exploration by sailboat or catamaran. Kornati with its many islands, is a top destination for sailing and boaters. If you sail towards one of the destinations, such as the fascinating Kornati archipelago with its 147 islands and islets on an area of only 15 kilometers, you won’t go wrong, you will be delighted. Many islands are scattered in a small area and make an ideal place for sailors in search of hidden coves. Be sure to sail to the steep cliffs on the Lower Kornati and those on the island of Klobučar (the highest is 80 meters). The islands are mostly uninhabited, so there are no hotels, and fishermen can offer you their freshly caught fish. When you spot the buoys floating in the turquoise water, you’ll know you’ve reached a tavern serving fresh fish, shellfish, lobster, lamb and other local specialties. What do I need to know before renting a boat in Croatia? Croatia has been a member of the European Union since July 1, 2013. The remaining validity of the requested passport is ninety (90) days from the expected end date of the stay. If you are coming by your own foreign ship, you are obliged to report to the harbor master’s office of the first and nearest port to complete the formalities of entering the country, including the payment of the residence and maritime tax. In exchange for this fee, the harbor authorities issue a one-year license sticker, the price of which is determined in proportion to the type of vessel and engine power. Certificate for navigation Passenger list/crew list – Crew list Certificate confirming the ability of the vessel driver to perform work on the vessel, according to the regulations in force in the country of the vessel’s registration or corresponding regulations in force in the Republic of Croatia Insurance against damage caused by third parties Certificate of ownership or authorization to use the vessel issued by the owner Permit disk/sticker, which can be purchased from the harbor master at the port of call (see next paragraph) All types of rowing boats, shorter than 2.5 meters and less than 5 kW propulsion power, are exempt from paying the license sticker. To use motorboats, including dinghies, regardless of engine power, possession of a nautical license is mandatory. What types of boats can be rented in Croatia? As a very popular destination, at Alitis Yachting you can take advantage of the wide range of sailboats, catamarans, motor boats, dinghies and yachts for rent. The choice is yours! You’ll also have the option to add extras, including a skipper, hostess or chef. Don’t wait long? The ship of your dreams is waiting for you!
