So, after an editing hiatus, we're finally back and trying to catch up to something like up-to-date. In this episode, we leave St Ninian's Bay on Shetland and sail Hiraeth back to mainland Scotland. The North Sea crossing is unprecedentedly boring, as the weather was surprisingly good for once. That certainly does not mean that that's how it stayed. On our return to Scottish shores, the heavens opened once more, and we were subjected to business as usual for the rain. Sailing's not all about constant action. In fact, a lot of the time it can be pretty boring. So, in this episode, we try to show a brief glimpse of how we fill the time in those moments between needing to actively sail the boat. We leave the Atlantic side of the Outer Hebrides and make our way back through the sound of Harris and down to the Isle of Barra. After making a quick stop to re-provision, we set sail again and headed down to the small island of Staffa. Here, we venture into the majestic Fingal's cave in our little dinghy and capture some great drone footage of the island just before sunset. The sailing continues the following day through the sound of Iona and back towards mainland Scotland. We are in what can only be described as one of the most beautiful destinations we've ever sailed to. Anchored in this remote bay nestled between 2 small islands in the Outer Hebrides, we explore the island's rugged coastline and cascading waterfalls. From here we continue on our Scottish sailing journey, and head a little south to the Island of Taransay where we experience some strong winds and encounter the rare sighting of several basking sharks. 00:00 Intro 01:17 Exploring sea caves 07:05 A beach life and sunset 08:41 Heading out into heavy weather 13:09 Fixing jammed winch 14:49 Basking sharks at Taransay 19:25 Beach clean-up Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... As we leave the isle of Rona in light wind. We show you how we use our spinnaker pole, to pole out the headsail and sail wing on wing (goose wing). In this episode, we continue sailing on our journey around the islands of Scotland's west coast and make our way over to the Isle of Scarp on the remote Atlantic coastline of the Outer Hebrides. 00:00 Intro 01:22 Poling out the headsail 08:07 Time for tea 10:30 DOLPHINS!!!! And so, we set sail again, this time we're leaving the Scottish fishing port of Mallaig and heading under the Skye bridge to quiet village of Plockton. In this episode, we leave Loch Sunart in the rain and make our way up to Loch Moidart where we negotiate a tricky tidal bar and show you how we use Antares chart to help make navigating into anchorages a lot safer. After checking out Castle Tioram and a night on anchor we continue sailing up to Mallaig and spot a pod of dolphins and several minke whales on the way. After a long dark winter, we set off sailing Scotland again in search of some new anchorages. We start the journey with a few spots in the firth of Clyde and an amazing encounter and a rare sighting of a humpback whale. Before we make our way around the Mull of Kintyre, and share a few tips of how we go about passage planning for tricky tidal currents. Music for the video was partly provided by Josh Woodward. This video is all about drilling more holes in our sailboat, as a boat can never have too many holes... I'm fitting a new block to the base of the mast and re-fitting the existing ones in a bombproof way to ensure they stay leak-free. Leaking fittings lead to a wet deck core, costly further repairs and potentially dangerous failures. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... In this video, we're cutting open the 35 year old diesel tank on our sailboat, to clean the whole thing out. We've prepped the boat and In this video, we go through all the steps of applying an epoxy barrier coat to the hull, to prevent osmosis. And how we applied the epoxy-based Coppercoat anti-fouling. We re-fit our rebuilt rudder, but not before unearthing a nasty surprise with the upper and lower rudder bearing tube supports.
