With safety and ease of handling in mind, we walk through the hardware and layout that make this system work: a hard point at the foot of the mast with a triple block, a deck organizer, a coach-roof winch to port, a double clutch, and a cam cleat. Our single reef line for the mainsail runs aft to the clutch alongside the main halyard, while the control line for the hydraulic boom vang is led back to a dedicated cam cleat. Combined with our already-installed roller furler for the genoa, this setup allows us to manage sail shape, reefing, and sail handling entirely from the cockpit. No trips forward, no scrambling on deck—just controlled, deliberate sail handling where it’s safest. We’re well aware that single-line reefing comes with compromises in sail trim, but for our sailing style and conditions, the trade-off is worth it. The goal is simple: reduce risk, simplify operations, and make the boat easier to handle short-handed.
