Episode 84: Sailing Koufinisi to Despotiko This episode Cass and Shelly continue their adventures as they set sail from Koufinisi to Despotiko. This week visits a 36 hour experience at anchor when we had a 47 knot Meltemi blast through our anchorage. We were expecting an estimated 30 maybe 35 knots of wind. We ended up dragging over 450 feet before anchoring again in another spot. This all while we hit our high of 47 knots. While Shelly was anchoring the windlass gave out and we lost a winch handle as it was ripped out of her hands and the full chain ran free until it hit the rode. This was our experience. Episode 83: Sailing Koufinisi to Despotiko This episode Cass and Shelly continue their adventures as they set sail from Koufinisi to Despotiko. A 6 hour sail where the winds came and went throughout the journey. While the winds are down we pulled in the sails and Shelly goes down below to slice veggies for veggie stir fry. This makes for an easy meal once we have arrived where she can throw everything plus rice and eggs into a pot and have dinner ready in about 15 minutes. Super quick and easy meal on the go. Episode 79: Sailing Turkey to Greece with unexpected changes in plans This episode Cass and Shelly continue their adventures as they check out of Turkey and set sail to Greece. The plan is to sail to Symi to check into Greece with a lovely sail, medium winds of 15 knots and mostly motoring?little did they know the forecast was about to change along with the sea state in a matter of an hour. In the middle of the night a blow came through with big seas and directly beating into it making for a very rough passage on us as well as the boat. So around midnight Cass woke Shelly up and we set a storm sail in our headsail to balance the boat and change course. Rather than continuing to beat into the wind and waves directly towards Symi we came off the wind and veered course towards Rhodes. We decided to use it as a safe harbor and checked into Greece here. Now it's time to explore a new island and what a beauty it is. Rhodes Acropolis, Seven Springs, Lindos Castle and Lindos Beach are all great destinations and sites to explore. Season 3 Episode 77: Setting sail on the high seas! We encounter Big seas on our crossing, dinghy care, Cyprus to Turkey This episode Cass and Shelly continue their adventures as they set sail leaving their winter berth (Karpaz Gate Marina) and sail to K?s, Turkey. As soon as we set outside the marina sea walls we encountered confused seas and no wind. This means no head or main sail to help balance the pendulum of the boat in rough seas. It was a bumpy start which only intensified throughout the night. We encountered 5-6 meter waves, a thunderstorm and lightning storm chasing us down with rain catching up with us in the middle of the night. It was during this time we had to address a rookie mistake of dragging the dinghy during a crossing. We then had to pull it in around 3 am with massive following seas. None of which was predicted on any wind or weather predictions. We made decent timing with the following seas, 2 days and 180 nautical miles later we made it to K?s, Turkey where we check in and give our dinghy a good scrub. Next week we will explore and experience the port city of K?s. We have a lot of fun things to share so make sure to tune in next week.
