We're back! :) After returning to New Zealand we had some pretty big plans to build a Rammed Earth home but that project was going to take a while so in the meantime we needed somewhere to live. In this episode we convert the storage attic of Asher's dads' work-shed into a little apartment. We're certainly not building experts so we wouldn't recommend using these techniques yourself but we had a lot of fun and this is the result. Note: There is no sailing in this episode :) Music by bensound.com & Epidemic Sound
It's been a trip. Join us one final time as we navigate quarantine on arrival into New Zealand, and our adjustment back to life on land. Shout-out to offcenterharbor.com for their great footage of Cora. Check out their website for more excellent content on Cora, and other wooden boats. Music by bensound.com & Epidemic Sound Massive thanks to everyone who tuned in for an episode on this journey. We've loved sharing it with you. Take care, lots of love, Dani & Asher
After a year and a half at sea we finally set sail for the last time to complete our journey home to New Zealand. We leave Bora Bora in our wake and encounter our most challenging sail. Join us for some scary moments, some beautiful scenes, and a couple of tears. Music by bensound.com & Epidemic Sound
Can't believe you guys are still watching! What a stunning place to prepare for our final passage back to NZ. We try to get our heads around the weather for what is renown as a pretty challenging piece of water while spending our last few days exploring paradise. Thanks for tuning in. After a week of absolute bliss chilling in Apataki we had an exciting exit out the North Pass and set the sails for the big smoke - Tahiti. What started off as a delightful, easy sail and turned out to be one of our toughest sails yet. Like our videos but not the ads? There are a lot of sharks in the passes in the Tuamotus. There are also a lot of fish, so the idea of spear fishing is quite alluring. Don't do it. Those lazy sharks know the sound of a spear gun that's for sure. Apart from this we had a great time in Toau. Enjoy! Like our videos but not the ads? We struggle to leave our fist atoll - Fakarava. After 3 weeks of absolute bliss we finally make a move to a new atoll, not without getting our chain wrapped around a bommie first though. Time to leave the Marquesas and head for the 'Dangerous Isles' - The Tuamotus, before we leave we check out some more of Nuku Hiva and meet a German chocolatier on the island of Ua Pou who makes the most delicious chocolate. Spoiler alert! Asher asked me to marry him and I said "YES!" We absolutely loved getting back on land after our 31 days at sea crossing the Pacific Ocean and had the most incredible off-the-grid experience with local Marquesan couple Tangi & Ana. Big shout out to our Patrons for making that happen. Like our videos but not the ads? It's not the right time to cross the Pacific and Galapagos is closed so we tackle the 4,000 miles from Panama to French Polynesia against the wind and the current at the wrong time. It is an epically fun adventure though and we loved it! Like our videos but not the ads? We're finally sailing again! We can't stop smiling in Las Perlas, even in the lightning and thunderstorms we are just so happy to be out of lockdown and are reminded of all the reasons why we love doing this. Oh and we bought a fishing rod... Music by bensound.com and Epidemic Sound Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/sailingbacchushome
Finally we leave the Caribbean and transit the Panama Canal into the Pacific. First step is hauling out at Shelter Bay for a fresh coat of antifoul. In this episode we take you through the steps involved to get you through the 6 locks as a raft of 3 sailing yachts. Canal transits, rum bootleggers and bamboo missions, life cranks up a little as Panama momentarily lifts their lockdown. Music by bensound.com and Epidemic Sound.
Our dinghy is an Eastport Nesting Pram, and it was designed by Chesapeake Light Craft (CLC) in the USA. We purchased the dinghy as a kitset in the UK - the European distributor for CLC is a company called Fyne Boat Kits. They're based in Cumbria. If you prefer to do the whole process yourself, you can buy the plans on their own. "Piwakawaka" is the Maori name for the native New Zealand Fantail, a bird which often follows people in the forest (like a tender follows a yacht). These birds are small, cute, agile and very useful (they eat insects like mosquitos and flies!) As an added bonus, the word "Waka" on its own means "canoe" or "boat", so we though the name was quite fitting. www.clcboats.com www.fyneboatkits.co.uk Enjoying our channel and want to support us? We made it to Panama and first we must complete 14 days on the hook amongst the wrecked ships in quarantine, but then we head ashore to get frisky in the jungle... enjoy! In the middle of lockdown in Curacao we make the decision to move to Panama where we'll be forced to do a 14-day quarantine aboard Bacchus. Fast sailing, we break our speed record three times on the way and Dani get's seasick (again!). 6,000 miles and we've still only caught one piddly fish!
