Finally, we make our next video! Hurricane Henri!!! In this episode Philippa and James head to the hotel after frantically calling over 30 hotels for literally 'room at the inn', not caring what it was like, we just needed at the final hour some shelter! Arriving at the hotel we watch the TV which is not only a novelty as we don't have TV, but to see the sheer context of the hurricane and what we are due to expect over the next few days. We learn that the hurricane is predicted to go to category 1. After not much sleep we awake to the news that the hurricane had hit the land and was heading for Sag Harbour and the main part of Long Island. James makes the most of the 'unusual breakfast treats' whilst Philippa makes the most of her favourite thing, the gym! We watch all day as the TV showed many boats being swept ashore and the tragedy that was sweeping America as there were more than a few hurricanes and storms that weekend. The hurricane had then been declassified to a Tropical Storm, which was some relief to our desperation for Aequus' safety We speak to our friend Mike who being the crazy dude he is decided to not only stay on the boat but at 4am decided to leave just as the storm was about to hit! Crazy is one word! We get a taxi back to Aequus with a wonderful driver that made the journey back relaxing and welcoming. We assess the damage - of which apart from a messy inside the damage was none and we were so happy and so relieved. We put Aequus back together, whilst hurricane Henri whipped its tail end around for the last time that night. TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Start of video 00:42 We watch the TV news reporting the hurricane 02:13 James eats a 'very fruity breakfast' 02:45 Philippa makes good use of the gym 03:07 We call Mike and hear his escapades!! 05:53 Monday morning after a very stressful few days we pack up and head back to the boat to assess the situation 06:46 James has seen a lot of water this weekend with his numerous baths!! 07:52 We head back in the taxi with a very lovely taxi driver - Gustavo 09:10 We reach Aequus and assess the damage 09:21 Everything looks absolutely fine, we can't believe how strong Aequus has held up! 10:06 We see how the inside has faired 11:50 Next time aboard Aequus 12:26 End of video
In this episode, we arrive at Sag Harbour and after settling down the anchor we realise that the place we have anchored is far too rocky and we decide to move to another part of the bay for better protection. We wake up the next day with excitement as we head into Sag Harbour to collect our amazing and very talented friend Georgia Louise. Georgia explains to us all why we need to be wearing protective headwear with her expert knowledge on skincare Georgia makes us laugh as she realises we are not driving the boat we are on autopilot. We get wet and wild in the water and realise the current is super strong and we had slight difficulty getting back to the boat. We shower each other down, it was so amazing to have our friend with us after not being able to share the boat with anyone from back home since covid began. Georgia and I nearly get picked up at the front of the boat, until they saw James and pretended they were asking for directions - very funny! James talks through the mooring as we prepare for hurricane Henri's hit on Long Island and Sag Harbour Philippa is not wanting to stay on the boat whilst the hurricane hits, but at this point we are staying on the yacht! James and Philippa debate about the hurricane and their thoughts and the apps that say very different things and the decisions that they have made. We strip down the boat, taking all the parts away that might be affected badly by the hurricane, strapping, lashing and removing all parts. The bay is starting to empty out and there is only a fraction of the boats that are normally in the bay, very frightening. The harbour master comes to see us and tells us that we shouldn't be staying on the boat. We pack up our belongings to last a few nights and Philippa searches at last minute for a hotel, which we eventually found, but was an hour and a half away from the boat, we felt lucky to have found somewhere. The feeling of leaving the abandoned stretch of water in the gloom was a feeling we will never forget. In this episode after our troubles getting into the marina, James and I finally get settled and dock in the famous Bert Jabin marina in Annapolis Philippa discusses the issue of trying to get into dock spaces because of the wooden posts and risking pulling the stanchions out if the fenders are left on. We turn the boat upside down more than once getting essential maintenance and repairs done. In this episode we explore the inside of the USS Wisconsin. Looking around we realise just how huge she is, not only in terms of size but also in terms of how much was needed to build her. Inside we find out how the troops really lived. Food certainly was not in short supply but it also became apparent just how much preparation and amount of food was needed to supply the very large number of crew. The cramp and warm conditions of the sleeping quarters really brought it home just what the troops went through We check out the gun turret and even we find it difficult to get in and out! Panic, stress, fear.. In this episode James and Philippa anchor in Moorhead city, the weather turns extremely windy and thunderstorms are forecast for the night. As the wind gets worse the yacht behind us gets pushed up against the seabed and pulls anchor. I (Philippa) watch in horror as James had left with the dinghy to shore. I feel helpless as I cannot do anything to help. I also worry for Aequus. We leave Moorhead city to settle in for the night before leaving around the headland to face Hatteras which neither of us are looking forward to after hearing many a bad story of Hatteras. As we safely and gladly arrive in Norfolk we are amazed at the Naval base and how enormous it is. We arrive in Norfolk to seawater very different from the Bahamas lol! We take a tourist trip around the city of Norfolk and check out the famous Naval Museum and Battle ship Wisconsin, we meet two incredibly charming veterans who made our day!! Timestamps: 00.00 - Start of video 00.19 - Explanation and statement 00.26 - James and Philippa explain the change of plan and our plan to sail through the gulf stream and instead make a 3/4 day passage directly to Moorhead City. 01.11 - James has a genius plan lol 05.55 - James demonstrates using the shared screen on the computer finding the latitudinal coordinates and the longitudinal coordinates through the fastest point through the centre of the gulf stream 09.06 - James shows on the B&G equipment the waypoints plotted 11.06 - Final results of the gulf stream 11.17 - Next time aboard AEQUUS
We can fish, we can't fish, we can fish, we can't fish - WE CAN FISH!!!! whohoooooo In this episode, we have dinner at the dockside before leaving the next day towards America Within 10 minutes into our journey we have already caught, not 1 but 2 fish, although we are not perfect at fishing, we cannot believe our luck and we use a more humane technique a friend of ours told us about. There is very little wind and have to put the sails away and motor We have a fresh feast for lunch with the delicious Mahi Mahi we had just caught We question our sail plan as all the other boats that left Westend that morning were heading in a straight line towards Hatteras, we instead had decided to head up the Gulf Stream and hopefully, get pushed along by the tide. James wakes up to a beautiful school of dolphins I attempt to fish on my own but get into difficulty and need to wake James up much to his disgust, only to then lose the fish which was also a tuna on the end of the line, who's fault was it!! Philippas or James'? In this episode, we wake up to a beautiful sunrise but due to a slightly unsheltered anchorage we didn't get much sleep and we realise we have 80 miles to do today We discover a friend of ours, Peter, from the sailing catamaran La Boheme was anchored in the next bay and they are also sailing in the distance towards Westend The boys decide they want to race so much to Philippa's tiredness the race IS ON!! Philippa wanted to stop off and have some Luxury breakfast on one of the cruise ships James gets excited by the race and gets stuck into discovering every boat that is around us and competing with people we don't even know - it does pass the time on long passages though lol!! Lots of fun.. We sail pass cruise ships that are just floating idle in the middle of the sea with their engines on, awaiting COVID to be over so they can resume their normal duties and carry holidaymakers to the private islands of Coco Cay and Great Stirrup Cay. We arrive at Westend and realise we beat La Boheme, however they caught a delicious fish, so all winners really.. We struggle to anchor in rockier ground than normal but it is the only place to anchor and lay our heads down for the night We venture into shore, fill up on fuel and check out of the Bahamas, Philippa has a dance like only you can outside a customs office in the Bahamas We stretch our legs on land and check out the beautiful coastline, have a swing in a hammock and wish fair winds to our friend Peter on La Boheme We head back to the yacht on William and put up the Code Zero in preparation for our sail to America tomorrow, we wish to be prepared as the last thing we want to do is be putting up a sail tomorrow and it be on the wrong side!!! lol 00.00 - Intro 00.20 - 5am sunrise at Great Stirrup Cay with no sleep 01.53 - We discover the catamaran next to us is our friend Peter 02.47 - The guys decide they are having a race as we leave the island 04.34 - We see 'drifting' cruise ships empty during covid 05.36 - Race update 07.10 - We arrive at Westend 08.21 - We struggle to anchor on the rocky ground 10.00 - We check out of the Bahamas 14.16 - We find a hammock and enjoy land before we set sail tomorrow 14.38 - Philippa thinks she might break the hammock as she has been eating a lot recently haha 15.50 - We enjoy the last of the Bahamian crystal-clear water 16.12 - We get the CODE ZERO out ready for our sail
PLEASE HELP US VIEWERS ? ?PLEASE click this link and upvote our plea to get Google Adsenses' attention ? https://support.google.com/adsense/thread/125648059/invalid-traffic-appeal?hl=en We are sending out a sorry because we have not been present on Youtube for several weeks. This is because we have been thrown out of Youtube's partnership program for 'INVALID TRAFFIC' and we have been trying to sort it out but to absolutely no avail. We have grown our YOUTUBE account completely organically, we don't have Patron, we received emails from Adsense to say they were SHUTTING us down - WITHOUT ANY EXPLANATION or reasoning behind this. We have been left completely disappointed and in the dark by what GOOGLE and GOOGLE ADSENSE have done. We have done nothing untoward to warrant this. We know other channels that rely on this revenue as their SOLE income!! Which is terrifying. When you have worked very hard from scratch to pull something together and then finally be rewarded by AdSense to then have it totally stripped away is not right! This makes a complete sham of the system! What makes matters worse is there is no one to speak to, no one to talk to and no way to get it sorted out. To say it is a devastating situation is an understatement. The only way we can get to be heard is through your help Please help us reach Google...click the link and upvote our plea. THANK YOU very much in advance, from Philippa, James and Aequus.... XXX 00.00 - Intro 00.20 - Philippa and James talk through what has been happening 10.15 - BLOOPERS to lighten things up
We eat a delicious dinner at the famous 'POOP DECK' in Nassau in the Bahamas. We discuss over dinner the effort it took to get US visas and an appointment at the American Embassy in Nassau. We get up early and leave the harbour area of Nassau and head out into choppy waters, experiencing some 'proper' sailing that we felt we hadn't done for a while, Philippa gets soaking wet, after James had told her 'don't worry about the waves', famous last words. We arrive at the Berry islands but after trying to settle we realised it was just far too rough and with some major sailing days ahead of us we decided to pull up the anchor and find a better resting place, we find an amusement park slap bang in the middle of the ocean!! We sail to Nassau and on the way we stop at Normans Cay (Pablo Escobar's old island). The island was once the main stopover and re-fuelling point for Pablo's planes traveling to the US laden with drugs. It was estimated that during the late 1970's and early 80's that 80% of cocaine in the US came through Normans Cay! We find and snorkel on one of the crashed drugs plane which sits in only a few feet of water. The next day we make our way to Nassau and have to cross the Yellow Bank. Yellow bank is a very shallow patch about 20 miles offshore that you have to cross coming from the Exumas. With only a couple of feet under the keel, we have to weave between coral reefs! Philippa catches a beautiful Mahi Mahi We anchor in total darkness without the guide of any lights in the night sky, without the moon and without any land-light and a faulty lighthouse. We get tailed by a shark as we fish in hope of catching more fish, are we on a roll? As we arrive in the Exumas in the Bahamas we weave through very shallow ground and rocks mindful of our 2.6 metre depth. As we arrive in the Exumas we discover two friends of ours that were also anchored in the same area and we set off to find them. After having much help from our friends we go for a wonderful lunch at Kahari resort hotel As we arrive back from the restaurant we watch a magnificent sunset on our first night in the Exumas TIMESTAMPS 00:00 - Leaving Hogsty Reef 03:15 - Philippa catches a Mahi Mahi 05:15 - We anchor in total darkness 10.38 - A shark tails us as we fish 13:14 - We arrive in the Exumas 16:18 - We surprise our friends on another yacht 18.04 - We go for a fabulous lunch at the Kahari restaurant 20:49 - We watch a magnificent sunset #sailingaequus

We then head off to explore Hogsty Reef which is a unique horseshoe coral atoll located about 40 miles from the nearest land. We drop the hook behind a sliver of land and plan to stay the night.
