We knew this day would come, but we never thought it would be so soon. My wife and I have lived aboard Peregrine for the past five years and have been cruising the Sea of Cortez since 2020. We have been refitting the boat the entire time in an effort to maximize comfort in remote locations and have finally brought her up to our standards. As a Christmas gift, Ethan takes us to check out the wild majesty of the whale shark. These giant sharks claim the title of the largest fish and feed themselves entirely with large amounts of tiny plankton. With a gentle grace, these adolescents easily outpace us with snorkel and fins.

As we get used to walking on land again, we explore a bit of what is on offer in San Jose Del Cabo then get back on the water for a trip down to Cabo San Lucas for Thanksgiving.

A quick day sail (and motor) from Puerto Escondido, Baja California Sur to Puerto Ballandra on Isla Carmen, plus an unexpected running aground!

Not just sailors, sometimes we like land too! This fun little scramble of a hike is located on Isla Danzante, just outside of Puerto Escondido in Baja California Sur. A gorgeous anchorage, but be careful of the cacti. We both slipped on the steep, gravelly terrain, independently, and landed on the spiky plants. Matty had to pull over 40 spines out of his hand over the course of the next couple of weeks.

Winter in the Sea of Cortez means lots of wind from the North, but every now and again we are able to get in a great sailing day!

When that North wind blows, you drop another anchor and sit tight. Fortunately, this anchorage is particularly beautiful.

We spent about a month in Santa Rosalia waiting for the right weather window to make the crossing to San Carlos. I think that our patience paid off!

A remote fishing village provides some rest before the fourth and final leg to San Jose del Cabo. But first, a swim!

Leg three down the West Coast of the Baja Peninsula provides us with some excellent sailing conditions as we experience technical difficulties and ultimately, "cheeseburgers!".

On the evening of October 24, 2020, Peregrine and her crew left San Diego, California on their way to the Sea of Cortez. After years of planning, there was nothing left but to sail south.
