Elan is a sailboat maker you should know about and this Elan Impression 45.1 is the proof! To start with the elephant in the room, this yacht costs significantly less than the competition! Nevertheless they are often the first to incorporate cool design ideas into their boats: Those aft seats were already implemented on the 2008 boat I sailed years ago and they are still only one of two companies making them. Elan provides seating for the whole crew! This 45.1 easily fits 8 people in the saloon and easily fits 8 people in the cockpit. I've seen much larger sailing yachts that don't manage to accomplish that. The saloon has well over two meters of standing height. The big Genoa insures speedy sailing. And on and on! This Beneteau Oceanis 30.1 knows what it is and what it is not. I like that! This currently smallest yacht in the Beneteau Oceanis family is NOT a charter sailboat with 4 cabins and 4 heads (bweh!). It is instead an owners boat for passionate sailors: Two mainsail options, jib, genoa, code 0, gennaker? No problem. Tillers instead of wheels? Sure. Main sheets on BOTH helm stations? You can have that. An actually usable head? Yes. Long keel, short keel, swing keel, lifting keel? Be my guest. Couple this with a foldable mast and you get easier transport and fewer craning fees at the marina. Sirius 35DS did NOT disappoint! The little sister of the Sirius 40DS packs a punch, having almost everything the 40DS Decksalon yacht has to offer, but in an even more compact package. At no time you feel like you are on a 35 foot boat, be it in the two double beds or the dedicated shower. 2-3-6 berth layouts available Have I already told you about the tech room with the work bench? Sunbeam Yachts stand for quality. The Sunbeam 40.1 is the third largest in their bluewater sailing line, bringing all the good layout and design elements from the bigger yachts into a smaller format. I particularly liked that the bathing platform was done without sacrificing aft storage. Also the lines are all hidden under deck and and the cockpit is chockefull of good design solutions. Cruising sailboats under 40 feet are quite difficult design exercises. Width and height become limited, but all the necessities are still there. This Beneteau Oceanis 35.1 does a good job of it. The double doors turn an extension of your salon into a private cabin in the front. I also love how they designed the cabin in gray + wood + window desing of it. All in all, a very fine sailboat for 4 people. For six it would be quite limIted, as then there is basically no storage left. This Nautitech 40 Open catamaran does a few things differently. First of all it places the steering cockpits far aft and to the sides, so it doesn't look like a 3 storied building (Lagoon =] ). I also liked the large outside sitting area instead of a small cramped one (older Lagoons, again...). All in all the this 40 foot Open from Nautitech does look, well... open, uncluttered. Yachts from Dufour, like this Dufour 460 Grande Large continue to strike me with their modern innovative layouts. This sailboat is the second largest in the Dufour Grande Large lineup (also, what's with that name...). It got me with the many windows, the fridge as well as the double front cabin, like on the Beneteau 45 we sailed recently.
