We like touring and walking in our own. Chinatown I'm Bangkok is huge, and it is easy to be overwhelmed by the crowd, the heat and the smell. So, keep it simple.
Escaping the heat at the mall! Iconsiam mall in Bangkok.
More walking along the tiny canals in Wat Tha Phra, Bangkok. As we chose to visit Thailand during the Thai New Year festivities, we were not spared the clay and water - a great tradition. It used to be a quiet and kind ritual of gently sprinkling perfumed water as a blessing, only after permission. As our host would tell us. Nowadays, water is thrown at anyone passing by with cups, water guns and buckets. Still, unique, colorful, loud and with a smile - the new Thai way.
Left the craziness of Khao San Central, and found a much nicer area of Bangkok to stay in - Wat Tha Phra. A neighborhood with tiny river canals, narrow alleys and almost no tourists. So could do what we love the most - walk for miles without much of a destination, catching a glimpse of the daily lives of local people.
Arrived in Bangkok, checked into a hotel near Khao San Road. Survived around 30min at Khao San - nothing like the charming and colorful night markets at Chiang Mai. Everyone hated it - even the teens! Left the hotel the next day and found a much nicer and more authentic area of Bangkok to stay in and explore.
A Saturday night market in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Full of colors and sounds. And all the amazing toys and souvenirs we did not buy, because we travel carry-on only! So, we created beautiful memories instead. Wondering how you can travel light? https://www.notextingandtacking.com/pack-light-tips-tried-and-tested-2023/
Walking around Old Town Chiang Mai in April - the hottest and smokiest time of the year!
Trying to cross a busy road in Chiang Mai, a glimpse of the evening weekday market in Old Town, a community temple at night.
A delicious banana roti (rotee, rotti, I have seen it all ones of ways), at the food market in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Why not make it at home?

We tour a traditional Thai house museum. The Lanna Traditional House Museum in Chiang Mai, Thailand. An all-outdoor museum with plenty of shade and beautiful homes. Don't miss the next episodes with our behind-the-scenes too! Blog post on cool things to do in Chiang Mai coming!
A glimpse of what a museum visit actually looks like. We are careful to respect traditions and customs, so not making fun of them in any way. Mostly making fun of us being typical tourists.
The Sticky Waterfalls are a must-visit place near Chiang Mai. Tours are offered as a half-day trips, or a full-day, combined with a hike, or an elephant farm visit. Definitely worth the trip. Very refreshing. No place to swim, but a great escape from the heat. To see the "Do not climb" sign, you have to climb to it.
One of our most amazing experiences - visiting an elephant family near Chiang Mai, Thailand. And, yes, I made fun of the elephant supplements we prepared, so I got to taste them. Won't make fun of them again.
There is always food in Thailand, during the day and during the night. For confused tourists like us, this can be especially handy!

A Thai cooking class, in Thailand - how to wrap a spring roll. It is very easy, a child can do it.
