There are several Pros and Cons for going to the Deep South of Maldives. In comparison to our trip several years ago we found a lot more livaboards and divers in Addu Atoll. The divespot"Tigerzoo" in Fuvamullah is very special. With our local guide we felt very safe. In Gaafu Aliffu we were surprised how healthy the corals are. After a few years of bleaching in a row 2017 and 2018 they are now in excellent condition. The biggest surprise of our trip was the amazing house reef of The Residence with several encounters with a Zebra Shark. Diving in the Jardinas de la Reinas with the Avalon 4 in Winter 2021/22. The extremly healthy shark population is unique in the Caribean. Epic trip on the Gaia Love from Kaimana to Sorong. Whale shark action under the Bagan, an Indonesian fishery platform. The soft corals in Triton Bay are out of this world. We saw many Mantas - Oceanic, Reef and Black Morphs. The reefs in Raja are still teeming with life. The masses of fish were unbelievable. The team of the Gaia Love was outstanding, the guides Non6, Deedy, Ali, Roy spotted every Pygmy Seahorse, Frogfish , Flamboyant Cuttlefish and other critters you can imagine. Unique diving around the Galapagos Islands. Watching the wall of hammerhead sharks in Wolf and Darwin was one of the most impressive experience I ever had. To play with the sealions is so much fun. To be honest, the whole experience over- and underwater is worth the effort like cold water, crazy currents and all the money spend. Special thanks to the team of Ocean's 8, the best dive companions you can imagine. The excursion to Champion for the sealions with Scuba Iguana was one of the best adventures, we had in Ecuador. Epic diving in the southern atolls of the Maldives, the encounters with mantas, whale sharks, grey reef sharks, silky sharks, hammerheads were amazing. Muckdiving in Ambon with the Maluku Divers, cruise with the Damai2 in the Banda Sea and Triton Bay. We liked most the diving around Pulau Run and the divesites Little Komodo and Christmas Rock in Triton Bay. Due to El Nino the water temperatures dropped to 21 C and the visibility was often poor. Fakarava is protected as a Biosphere reserve by the UNESCO. After diving in Maldives the 5th time, we had the impression of an increasing number of young sharks, hopefully the first sign of the shark protection. We dove most time in the vicinity of Vilamendhoo. We saw the Manta rays and the whale shark near Madivaru, Rangali, the grey reef sharks at Hafza Thila, North Ari.
