Curious about family sailing and overnighting with kids on the Ottawa River? Get a glimpse of one family's experiences on the Ottawa River in their sailing "camper on the water". The Smith's have been sailing, exploring and overnighting on the Ottawa River since 2016 when they acquired their 32-foot Hunter sailboat Saint of Circumstance. Ensuring maximum safety - and fun, are the essentials for successful family boating adventures. Over the past 8 years (beginning when Lily was 5 and Dominic was 3), through hundreds of outings (and some adversity) on the Ottawa River, the Smiths will share some of their experiences and "best practices" that keeps them setting off for more! When Meghan (and puppy Audrey) joined the crew in 2022, the fun (and culinary proficiency) multiplied exponentially, and last summer, the family spent 25 nights on the water.

We will be discussing how to care for and maintain cruising / racing sails. We will look at how they function and how proper maintenance can extend the life of your sails and canvas. We will also look at common problems and how to identify them and finally, how to know when it's time to replace your sails.

On November 19th, 2023, the 156 boats participating in the yearly Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) set out from Las Palmas, Spain with the goal of reaching Rodney Bay, St. Lucia. Join Michael, Richard and Nic as they recount their 19 days at sea with a focus on the realities of the crossing and tips for anyone considering doing the ARC themselves.

They'll share some lessons learned, including journey completion strategies like vessel preparations, crew management, and balancing mission objectives with creating memorable experiences. They'll also cover the importance of flexibility, adaptability, mental preparedness, and leadership in navigating the challenges of their voyage.

Join us for an evening with Mike Roper, Leonore Evans and Tony Latus who will talk about how to get into sailboat racing on Lac Deschenes. We will provide an overview of the different racing experiences available, and what you need to do to get started. We will cover some of the basic knowledge needed to have fun on the race course and the opportunities offered by NSC for learning and practice. Tony will conclude the talk with an overview RUST, a unique volunteer-run race series that he has created.

We want to encourage more women to come out and experience the joy of sailing. There are many interclub sailing activities on the Ottawa River in which women, while having fun, also share their skills with other women. Luc Lafrance speaks at the 2024 Winter Speakers series about the lessons he's learned sailing the great lakes on his Bayfield '36 "Galatea X" Join us for an evening with Luc Lafrance as he shares his unexpected journey into sailing. A decade ago, Luc had hardly stepped onto a sailboat. However, after a captivating trip to the Grenadines in 2015, he, along with a friend, took the bold step of purchasing a Bayfield 36, embarking on a series of adventures. At the Nepean Sailing Club, our Sail Training Centre is introducing and fostering a love for sailing and appreciation for our environment. This recap video showcases much of the activities from this past summer 2023.

The annual Ottawa Skiff & Catamaran Grand Prix, held at NSC June 3 and 4, turned itself into another successful regatta. Friday, June 2, saw an International - 14 clinic, as typically, this is the first time out in the season for many sailors. This led to much tweaking and looking for lost and missing parts.
