Back in March I found myself with a weekend to kill in the Los Angeles area.... I looked first at hotels, and the cost of accommodation, food and entertainment threatened to rack up to quite a sizeable sum.... Last October, I sailed on P&O's shiny new Arvia ship, from Southampton to Barcelona and back again. And I had a really good time on the ship. Less fun though was the medical journey I was on that sandwiched this cruise.... The medical journey ended in a less pleasant place than the cruise, and rather got in the way of my enjoyment of the Arvia, and also got in the way of my enthusiasm for documenting the trip.... Two of my patrons have recently returned from their first cruise, so I thought it would be fun to get them together and see what they thought of the experience.... And as both chose a cruise after watching my videos, I have a vested interest in whether they had a good time!! They kindly shared their experiences, what was good, what wasn't so good, what they enjoyed most and what they would do differently if they decided to cruise again (spoiler alert - they both will!!!!) And a word about this video... This was my first attempt to record a video using multiple participants (three), multiple cameras (three, although it may look like there were more!) and multiple microphones (six, although two of them decided not to work....) And if that wasn't complicated enough, I decided to film the whole thing on location in a restaurant, where it turns out that we were a bit to close to the kitchen and so experienced a little noise bleed!!! In other words, this is not technically the best video I've ever released - although I am pretty happy with how its come out.... I think the quality of the content is very high and makes up for the technical shortcomings - I hope you agree!! I recently cruised on the MSC Virtuosa from Southampton to the Canary Islands and back again. It was an excellent experience, right up until we were called for disembarkation on our return to Southampton... The Border Farce, sorry Force were having a go-slow which backed passengers up and created an unpleasant and potentially dangerous situation in the baggage hall. It wasn't MSC's fault, but they could have done a lot more to take control of the situation. I recently spent a week bobbing around the Atlantic ocean with P&O cruises on their Azura ship. It was a cheap cruise - single occupancy of a balcony cabin with flights and transfers would have cost well under £1,000 had we not chosen to add a drinks package.... And I had a great time! Despite the experience P&O offered... I find it hard to believe that this is the standard P&O offering - I wager it would be different if you boarded their shiny new Arvia ship - and there were a number of ways that P&O admitted that they had done things to save money... As construction was underway, Norwegian had a change of ownership and the new owners insisted on changes to the ship's design as it was being built. I'm speculating now, but it wouldn't surprise me if that 4 story lump at the front of the ship (which houses the Haven complex) was a last-minute add on as it just doesn't look right and doesn't really fit with the design of the rest of the ship.... This soured relations with the shipyard and meant that the sister ship was never built... So the Epic is unique and has a number of features which were never repeated. In this video I'll offer a ship's tour, packaged in a "day in a life" format to make the video a little more interesting than the usual "ship tour" video. Whilst these videos are usually unopinionated so as to just present the ship, I couldn't resist giving some of my own opinions at the end... I recently spent 7 nights cruising around the Western Mediterranean with Norwegian on their Epic cruise ship. Epic by name, but epic by nature??? I recently cruised from Barcelona on the Norwegian Epic on a 7 night cruise around the Mediterranean. The Epic first sailed in 2010 and at the time, it was the 3rd largest cruise ship in the world... It has some unique design features, and I am using the word "unique" correctly here - there is no other ship like it...
