In September 2024 I visited the Azores and went on a sailcruise for around seven days. We had to deal with quiet strong winds so we couldnt visit all the famous divespots around the island of Horta and Pico. Nevertheless we had a good week of divinig and had the pleasure to enjoy a huge baitball on the last day at sea. In September we had the privilege to witness an amazing encounter between the islands of Pico and Faial at the Azores. Nearly two hours we swam and dived with Yellowfin tunas, Bluefin tunas, a Sei whale (which we didnt see at first), Atlantic spotted dolphins and many birds (Scopoli's shearwater and seagulls) forming a massive bait ball beneath the surface. An experience probably lasting for a long time. Thanks to Britta and Hendrik Langer for the awesome photos. In July 2024 we explored the eastern and southern parts of South Africa. We started in Durban and made our way down to Cape Town by car. From there we took a flight to Johannesburg and visited the Kruger N.P. and Panorama Route. During our travels we encountered a lot of wildlife including the Big Five (above and under the water) and met incredible people along the way. The most memoriable moments happend at the Sardine Run where we got to see Humpback whales, Southern right whales, Common and Bottlenose dolphins and sharks. After our liveaboard we spent another tow weeks in the region of Coron and later on Malapascua. We had the chance to dive with Dugongs, lots of Thresher Sharks, many turtles and inside/around many different wrecks. However, some of the spots were overloaded with divers who were not always properly educated and respectful towards the marine environment. But I guess its an illusion to have all the marine life to itself and only dive with likeminded people. Overall it was a good trip with in my opinion the best spot in the world to dive with Thresher Sharks: Kemod Shoal. Lets preserve this dive spot as it is. Otherwise the same fate, as to the previous Thresher Shark spot Monad Shoal, could happen... In late April we visited the Tubbataha Reef (a World Heritage Site) in the Sulu Sea onboard the MV Solitude One. The weather was not optimal (quite unusual for this time of the year) and the conditions underwater sometimes frustrating (bad visibility and limited encounters with Megafauna). However we saw the glimpse of what Tubbataha is capable of as a world famous divesite. Beautiful coral gardens and sometimes a suprise behind a corner or at the surface. A place where anything can happen at any time. Besides our trip to the Revillagigedo Islands (Socorro, Sand Benedicto and Roca Partida) we also visited the carribean side of Mexico. We stayed in Playa del Carmen and went to different Cenotes in the area and also took a boat trip to Cozumel for one day (great visibility and lots of fish but hysteric guides). Luckily the the Bull sharks were still in the area so we also were able to see them from not so far away. Also the Remoras were there and very playful. Many thanks to the crew of the DiveMex dive centre for organizing all our trips and always taking care of us during our dives and the sometimes long car/boat drives. Despite the global COVID-19 pandemic we made our way over to the Maldives to go on a seven-day Liveaboard journey around the central atolls. Our ship was the MV Carpe Diem and luckily we had most of the divespots for ourselves. The weather was sometimes rough and the wind was very strong in the first few days. That was one of the reasons why the visibility was mostly poor. But the underwater fauna was as present as ever. We experienced Mantas, Whale Sharks and many other shark species. Social distancing definitely didn't apply to the underwater world of the Maldives. In late February we visited the island of Fuvahmulah in the south-area of the Maldives. We experienced probably one of the best Tiger Shark diving in the world alongside the Bahamas. But not only Tiger Sharks call the area around the island their home. Silver Tip, Grey Reef, Thresher and Whale Sharks also show up in huge numbers. And also the coral reef, especially around the north corner of the island, looks extremely healthy compared to other parts of the Maldives. In the first days of October I went to the most southern tip of Mozambique to explore the underwaterworld of Ponta do Ouro. Just one kilometer away from the South African border you can explore divesites full of fish and large megafauna (Bull Sharks, Tiger Sharks, Silver Tip Sharks, Manta Rays and many more). But I also encountered bad visibility and a water temperature of about 19-20 degrees which is quite unusual for this time of the year. Maybe the best part about the months September and October, is the constant sighting of humpback whales from shore or from the zodiac (speedboat). We headed out on the Pacific onboard the Nautilus Belle Amie for an 11 day trip to the Archipiélago de Revillagigedo (better known as Socorro). During these days we had numerous dives with Oceanic Mantas, Hammerheads, Dolphins and other Sharks. Sometimes the conditions underwater were rough, but in the end it was all worth it. Islands we dove: San Benedicto (especially the Canyon was on fire), Roca Partida and Socorro Island. The awesome crew of the Belle Amie was the cherry on top with their never ending positive vibes and all the helpful hands. Special Thanks to Jonas for providing two shots in this video and to my father for the aerial shots from the drone! We visited the Maratua Atoll in the early days of October 2018 for almost two weeks and spend time at the Nunukan Island Resort and the Nabucco Island Resort. One each island we had five days of diving including trips to Kakaban (Jellyfish Lake) and Sangalaki, were we had no Mantas unfortunately. But overall we had some great dives with sometimes strong current, especially at the Big Fish Country near the Nabucco Island. But we got rewarded with hundreds of Barracudas, Hammerhead and Grey Reef Sharks. Both resorts were very nice and the stuff was always polite and helpful with every problem. In August 2018 we headed out to a four-week Adventure Trip around British Columbia, Alberta and Alaska. We had the pleasure to experience incredible landscaps and the native wildlife, including Brown Bears, Black Bears, Bald Eagles, Humpback Whales, Wapitis and much more. Furthermore we discovered nearly untouched areas, which was a very unique experience in a world were you see the impact of human activities almost everywhere. Our route began in Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Then we moved on to Alaska (Juneau and Wrangell) and the area of Alberta (Jasper and Banff NP). Thanks to my father Hans-Werner Tschirch for providing me the following shots: 1:58 - 2:04 2:32 - 2:37 2:37 - 2:41 2:46 - 2:51 3:05 - 3:09 3:28 - 3:35 3:35 - 3:43 Camera: GoPro Hero 6 Accessories: Polarize Filter, Tripod Edited with: Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018 Music: Tony Anderson - Breakthrough (All rights of the song belong to their respective owners.) At the end of february we were the second divegroup this year on the Seawolf Dominator. Our tour was called "Best of Sudan" and we visited many famous divesites, including Sha'ab Rumi, Sha'ab Jumna and the wreck of the Umbria. We had wonderful conditions with sometimes strong current, which lead to many shark encounters: - Hammerhead Sharks (group of up to 100 individuals) - Grey Reef Sharks - Silky Sharks - White Tip Reef Sharks Thanks a lot to the crew and the wonderful dive guides who gave us the best underwater experience possible. Also a big thanks to Eva, who gave me the shot from 2:56 - 3:04. In October 2017 I did a dive-safari in Egypt on the Golden Dolphin 2. Our plan was to dive at the Brother Islands (Small and Big Brother), Daedalus Reef and Elphinstone. Unfortunately it was not possible to dive at Elphinstone due to strong weather conditions. However the dives we did at the Brother Islands were absolutely stunning. All in all we had five species of shark: Oceanic White-Tip Shark Thresher Shark Grey Reef Shark White-Tip Reef Shark Scalloped Hammerhead Shark But I was not able to capture every encounter.
