This is a hard video to film. I have been one of the biggest total boat supporters that company has ever seen. And for the reasons I list in this video I can no longer support the company or recommend their products to my viewers. Im asking my viewers to help support my channel moving forward. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCw8wKyrSI753uT9VWg_9iCA/join #totalboat #bye
Holes in Rubber inflatable boats are a huge pain. There's a right way and a wrong way to fix them. The first step is to identify whether your boat is PVC or hypalon. These two materials require different repair methods. In this video I'll show you how to repair these holes, and these methods also apply to cracks and tears. It's been while since ive posted, and im really sorry for that. Hope your all doing well Make sure you check out my buddies shop Barre Woodworks 978-870-7772 https://www.instagram.com/barrewoodworks
This is probably the number one issue with all my customers. Rotten wood, in either the deck, transom or in this case the seats. My wonderful customers who own this boat really didn't want to drop a lot of money using coosa, so were using MDO. My second favorite material to fix boats. I used some 3 year old Gelcoat, but you'll have to watch to see if it cures. #boatrepair #gelcoat #woodenboat

anything and everything you could want to know about VHF radios will absolutely NOT be covered in this video. Why should you have a VHF? What does VHF stand for? Handheld vhf radio reviews, or the best handheld vhf radio, yup I'm not really covering any of that. But how to use a VHF radio is something I cover in this video, why? The Vhf is the most important piece of equipment you can have on a boat. A handheld is almost a MUST. If you don't have one please for the love of the baby Jesus buy one. even if its a baofeng!! Save the frustration cutting, sanding, and trying to make everything line up! If you have damage on your boat, and can make a silicone mold of a good area on your boat, WHY NOT. This would work with hatches, deck plates, and other decorative areas on your boat. The silicone works very well with the fiberglass and gelcoat almost making a perfect duplicate. Plus it was super fun to do. any maybe just maybe opened up a new part of the business. Consider joining the channel! Many of you want to shrink wrap your own boat. Should you? Is it worth the investment of time, tools and materials? In todays video we will go over the proper way to wrap your boat; should you choose to do it. Do it the right way and your boat will be safe and sound all winter. Do it wrong and disaster could be the result. In this video I am using an old piece of shrink-wrap that has been used to cover the miss Stella, DO NOT USE OLD SHRINK WRAP!!!! Always use fresh untouched plastic! #holdfastmarine #hamiltonmarine #totalboat
Do it right or don't do it at all!! We will discuss the best tools and techniques to use, the best wire and products you should be using. Anything made by #blueseasystems is my go to! My #boatlife people will understand. Use the correct marine grade wire, Ancor is the best in my opinion. Make sure your using the proper gauge wire, a fire on a boat is terrifying. Can you use a shelter logic building as a permanent workshop? This is a question I've been asking myself for about 6 months. I finally bit the bullet and purchased a 36' long by 16' wide by 14' tall building. Total cost with shipping was over 8,000 bucks!! Putting up this building was extremely difficult. If it wasn't for my good friend who owns a crane I wouldn't have been able to do it by myself. The plan for this building is to make it my permanent place to build out 23' Crowley Beal boats. It will have heat, insulation and a rear door. I hope you enjoy the video. Music from Pixabay.com #shelterlogic #holdfastmarine @ShelterLogicDirect
MUST WATCH TOPIC: I get asked many times a week what the proper way to sand freshly applied gelcoat without sanding through. If you think I've never sanded through you'd be WRONG. Over the years I have adapted a technique to make sure I never sand through my gelcoat again. In this video I'll show you that technique. When it comes to Buffing slow and steady wins the race. I really like the total buff from #totalboat, but there are many other great products, like 3M which I do use from time to time. The total buff is much better for sanding out scratches, and the 3M is a little better for removing oxidation. If your looking for a great boat wax the stuff from TB is probably the best on the market, and provides lasting protection. When it comes to repairing your boat this step is always the hardest. Sanding and buffing gelcoat is much harder than buffing out some spray painted; paint on your car and just remember folks you need to buff and wax your boat every year! Next time we finally spray that alexseal paint! #totalboat total buff https://www.totalboat.com/product/totalbuff/ #holdfast marine
In this video I cover the final sanding, applying totalboat structural repair putty, and some home made fairing compound. I use totalboat gelcoat and some silica to make my own. It's an alternative to poly fair if you either don't have any or are worried about sanding through. Spraying gelcoat can be a pain, but done in layers you don't have to worry. I'll show you in this video how to do it the right way. Repairing fiberglass cracks can be intimidating but trust me boat restoration is easier than you think. Ive done a few videos looking at spraying gelcoat, but this is the first one I've shown spraying a hull on camera. Thankfully my iPhone survived! #boatrestoration #sunfishsailboat #holdfastmarine If you have not watched the video on the cheap spray gun a link will be in the comments. https://youtu.be/-88qcffkoGY Please help support the channel by subscribing and using the discount code holdfast10 at www.totalboat.com
Recently Mass Audubon hired me to restore 8 sunfish sailboats they use at summer camp. I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to sho you all how to do a complete restoration. In todays video I cover the steps to prep the hull for new gelcoat. I didn't expect all the issues id be having, old latex paint, some bondo filler and more. Sometimes you cant wait for supplies to ship and have to use what you have available in your shop. Enjoy the video and thank you all for being patient. #holdfastmarine #massaudubon #boatrestoration Ghostbusters clip is owned by Columbia Pictures and is used under the fair use act. Plywood is just one of those materials everyone uses on their boat. In this video I will show you the proper way to do a fiberglass layup. Using some MDO I had in the shop, and is my preferred plywood for any boat project. Its light and once sealed semi waterproof (road signs and billboards were made from MDO) Fiberglassing plywood is a lot easier than you think!! And this technique applies to all fiberglass repair, or your own boat restoration project. This type of repair can be applied to transom repair, or to replace the stringers on your boat. Even fiberglassing the bulkheads in your boat, really anytime you need to fiberglass a 90 degree angle. You will need some 1708 fiberglass and some chop strand matting to do this layup. It is crucial that you round over the top edge. Fiberglass does not like to bend at 90 degree angles. I really prefer to use a structural repair putty like total boats or hull and deck because I don't have to mess around with silica, which is very toxic to our lungs. If your using laminating polyester resin make sure you cure it with gelcoat, please don't use the PVA. I explain why in this video! With the success of my original how to apply gelcoat video, I still get asked "How do you roll and tip gelcoat" You asked for it so here it is! In the original video I showed you how to apply gelcoat with a roller and brush to cure some polyester resin. This video focuses on a finish gelcoat application that you can use to get your boat looking brand new. In the video I cover rolling and tipping. I show you how to roll gelcoat onto your sub straight and to tip it smooth. Just like in the how to spray gelcoat video you need to get some thickness before you can get that mirror finish. Applying one or two layers of Gelcoat Without Wax, and then finishing with a layer of gelcoat with wax, you will be able to sand and buff to a mirror finish. *Remember* to mix small batches and overlap as you proceed. Use the minimal MEKP you can so you have a longer working time!! You can always come back the next day and apply more It takes time to get this right so keep trying. In our other "how to spray gelcoat" video I really didn't focus a lot on the equipment or on the spraying process. I heard all of you! This video focuses ONLY on the spray gun, and the application of the gelcoat. I teach you what to look for when spraying, how to adjust the spray, and how to apply it to the surface you're coating. This spray gun was bought on amazon, and only cost me about 35$ (at the time). Ive been spraying gelcoat with this gun for about 2 years now. It hasn't failed me yet. If you'd like to see the other video it is in a playlist. The link for the spray gun is below if you'd like to try it. My #totalboat discount code is also at the end of this description. If you are thinking about spraying an entire boat with this spray gun be prepared for a LOT of sanding. I hate sanding boats. Gel coating a boat is HARD work. This gelcoat application method is the most cost effective for the DIY'er I highly recommend you use two coats of Gelcoat without wax and one final coat of the gel with wax. This will give you a good foundation for sanding. Which is a video I am prepping now. If you plan on doing a lot of projects I still recommend you buy the 300$ gelcoat specific spray gun. You MUST have all your ducks in a row, have your dump cup, acetone, and cleaning brushes ready. You only have about 6 minutes to spray all the Gel and get the cup gun cleaned before it starts to cure Trust me when I say the most frequently asked question I get is " How to gelcoat a boat" I think its worth mentioning how awesome (I think) the 80's vibe is in this video. I really took a lot of time making this and I hope you really enjoy it. It was a ton of fun to make. Folks if you subscribe to this channel you are helping me SOOO much.
