What's really stopping us from going interstellar? In this episode of The Frame Podcast, legendary Dr. S. Pete Worden, former Director of NASA Ames Research Center and now Chairman of the Breakthrough Prize Foundation, delivers some mind-bending answers. He explains how we can "sail" to the stars on beams of light, why our search for alien life might be fundamentally flawed, and how he collaborated with an AI "ghost" of sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke. This episode's highlights – The "Avatar" planet is real? A James Webb Telescope discovery – The new age of space sailing begins – Breakthrough Starshot: The plan to reach 20% light speed – How a Sci-Fi legend was "resurrected" as an AI co-author – The future of Mars settlement: Sending biology, not humans – The secret to life on Venus (it's not water) – The biggest barrier: "Science proceeds one funeral at a time" – Pete Worden's powerful advice for young innovators ▾ Jump right in to 00:00 Intro 03:23 Finding Earth 2.0 09:46 Going interstellar 14:29 Resurrecting a Sci-Fi legend 17:22 Settling on Mars 22:13 The future of our civilization 26:49 Searching for alien life 29:28 Science's biggest barrier 35:58 Advice for young innovators Explore more → Learn more about the Breakthrough Prize: https://breakthroughprize.org/ → Join the conversation with us on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/endurosat → Subscribe for more insights from the space industry: https://www.youtube.com/@endurosat → Learn more about our EnduroSat’s mission: https://www.endurosat.com/ → Explore career opportunities at EnduroSat: https://www.endurosat.com/careers Quote "I think that the future of our civilization will expand in our solar system and eventually go interstellar. In the premiere episode of The Frame Podcast, host Raycho Raychev sits down with one of the sharpest minds at the intersection of venture capital and deep tech: Delian Asparouhov, Co-founder of Varda Space Industries and Partner at the legendary Founders Fund, to discuss what it truly means to build a valuable enterprise in space. This episode's highlights – Why Founders Fund invested in a Bulgarian satellite company – Why a VC deal can take 3 hours in the US vs. six months in Europe – Moving from vertical integration (like SpaceX) to horizontal economy – Is the industry just playing musical chairs with investor money? – A founder's philosophy: "Fall in love with the problem, not the technology" – The magic number that could unlock the entire space data market – Why most new space companies don't have a real, defensible advantage – The Uber/Airbnb analogy for the space industry – Are investors going to get burned by failing constellations? – How Europe's "rational" mindset holds back its incredible engineering talent – Building and inspiring a new generation of founders ▾ Jump right in to 0:00 Intro 0:30 The "Dell for satellite manufacturing" thesis 2:56 US vs. EU investor mindset 4:53 The #1 shift in the space industry 8:05 The "Space for Space" bubble 10:16 The biggest mistake founders make 13:41 The $1 per Gigabyte goal 16:44 Are space companies making a mistake? 22:21 The skepticism trap 26:42 Building the "TSMC of Bulgaria" Explore more → Join the conversation with us on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/endurosat → Connect with Delian Asparouhov: https://www.linkedin.com/in/delian-asparouhov-87447742/ → Subscribe for more insights from the new space economy: https://www.youtube.com/@endurosat → Learn more about EnduroSat’s mission: https://www.endurosat.com/ → Explore career opportunities at EnduroSat: https://www.endurosat.com/careers → Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-frame-podcast/id1844385798 → Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4AtQ3hpLI4QNaJ5vNiDgzY?si=YDx8b555QZ6AB2bkxCb8wA Quote "If we can enable $1 per gigabyte of any type of space data, I think it's a game changer for the industry. Apply now for Bootcamp 2023: https://bit.ly/bootcamp-2023 The 13th edition of EnduroSat`s Space Challenges Program brought together in Bulgaria 30 students from 11 countries to participate in a 1-month extensive Bootcamp for space sciences, engineering, and technology. In the village of Gela, Rhodope Mountains, we proudly hosted leading experts from space agencies, universities, and space companies who shared their expertise and vision with our space cadets. The curriculum included workshops and lectures on Space Systems Engineering, Space Science and Exploration, Orbital Mechanics, Astrophysics, Space Entrepreneurship, Hardware Design, Propulsion Technology, Mechanical design for 3D Printing, Scientific Computing, Space Law, and Regulations, and more. Our space cadets successfully designed and build two Moon rovers, coded onboard #Platform1, one of EnduroSat`s software-defined NanoSats, and build two Satellite Ground Stations. Shoutout to Class of 2022, we are proud of our graduates! BIG thank you to all our lecturers, we are proud to have you onboard! Kudos to team EnduroSat who made Space Challenges Program possible! Space education is the way forward! Ad Astra! Powered by EnduroSat
