The largest Viking ship sailing in modern times, Draken Harald Hårfagre, sailed into New York City harbor September 17 2016. She left Haugesund, Norway, April 26 2016 and sailed across the North Atlantic Ocean to America just like the Vikings did a thousand years ago. Isn't she beautiful?

8 minutes with the amazing Draken Viking Ship. This is the film we showed in our exhibition tent on the festivals around the Great Lakes, filmed between Greenland and Newfoundland on the crossing of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Sometimes it is hard to imagine that this was just a couple of months ago. Draken and her crew have been through storms on the North Atlantic Ocean. What an achievement, sailing from Norway, to Shetland Islands, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland - just like the Vikings did a 1000 years ago, and into the St Lawrence Seaway, trough the locks and into the Great Lakes. She made it, it is a real modern Viking voyage.

We love to meet all the people! We love sailing!

In the bow Draken has 3 runes inscripted, Algiz that protects from all dangers, Tiwaz that stands for victory and strenght and radio that stands for communication and travel. The runes will give the ship protection and fair winds. In every port Draken visits we try to have her available for the public to come visit, see all the ornamentations and decorations, and experience her greatness.

The challenges in the St Lawrence river is very different to the ones on the North Atlantic Ocean.

Facing Icebergs, waves, and all kinds of weather Draken left Greenland the 27th of May, heading out on her last leg on the crossing of the North Atlantic Ocean.

A 1000 years ago the Vikings landed North America and Newfoundland. The first of June 2016 the modern Vikings on Draken did the same.

The 16th of May Draken set sail and headed out from the port of Reykjavik for her longest leg on Expedition America 2016. The goal was the port of Qaqortoq, Greenland.

The 17th of May is an important day in Norway! This film clip a celebration of Drakens home country with special thoughts to the home port of Haugesund.

The leg between Iceland to Greenland was made in 6 days and was the longest legs on the crossing of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Life onboard is not easy, the galley is open and only covered with canvas to protect the cook and the food from the worst seas and weather. The cook Janne talks about the challenges cooking onboard the world's largest Viking Ship.

The 26th of May two of the members of the project got married in the church ruin of Hvalsey, Greenland.
