Chuuk Lagoon (previously Truk Atoll). Chuuk was the Empire of Japan's main naval base in the South Pacific theatre during World War II. It was the site of a major U.S. attack during Operation Hailstone in February 1944 Cargo ships, battleships, tanker, submarine, bombers, fighters, tank, torpedoes, ammunition, gas masks, rifles? all this and more in the embrace of the sea. The brutality of war is revealed when diving into this endless graveyard of ships. Our group completed 7½ diving days, 30 dives and almost twenty wrecks. It is comforting to see that the marine life is taking over and almost all the external structures of the ships now serve as anchorage and growth platforms for corals. And what corals and colors! Brothers - Daedalus - Elphinstone: BDE. Indeed, this route is BDE in nature. Sharks, mantas, currents, drop offs but also incredibly colorful reefs and fish. Not to mention the 120-year-old Numidia wreck, which rests almost vertically, starting at about eight meters and ending at a depth of about 80 meters. "Northern Wrecks and Tiran" is known as a diving safari with the opportunity to explore some of the finest wrecks and coral reefs in the Red Sea. The route is often somewhat misunderstood. It's not just wreck after wreck. To me it is, to the greatest extent possible, an assortment of different habitats for underwater life. Liveaboard week 14/2023. The material of the video, of which here is only a small part, was filmed during one week of safari. That says something about the versatility of the route.
