A short video of an early season trip in company with another Fulmar and a Sadler 26 with good friends on board. With added stills from Aidan Whiteley.
This is a compilation based on videos of my voyage to the south coast of Ireland, sailing singlehanded on my 32ft Westerly Fulmar. Hopefully it will showcase for you some of the wonderful harbours, marinas and anchorages I was fortunate to visit.
My return from Glengarriff in Bantry Bay includes exploring Schull, Sherkin Island, Barloge Harbour, Glandore, Kinsale, Youghal and Kilmore Quay and then sailing onwards singlehanded back to the Exe Estuary. This is the final part of my adventures to the south and southwest coasts of Ireland in 2024.
Sailing singlehanded in a 32ft Westerly Fulmar along the south and southwest coasts of Ireland from Cork to Glengarriff, Bantry Bay. Entering the Wild Atlantic Coast but held back by strong northerly winds from getting far up the coast! This is part 2 of my trip after being helped by crew to get to Cork from the Exe estuary. Summer 2024.
The first of my videos from these adventures in 2024 shows the delivery from the Exe Estuary to Cork. Subsequent videos will show my singlehanded sailing along the south and southwest coast with videos and drone footage of some delightful harbours and anchorages
This is a sample of some footage I have gathered during my voyages to Southern Ireland sailing singlehanded on my Westerly Fulmar. I will prepare more footage especially of the harbours and anchorages along the south coast of Ireland and as far as Bantry Bay. This is Glandore - it was so good I visited twice!
Thalmia has begun a singlehanded sailing trip along the south coast of Ireland heading for the Wild West Atlantic coast. I'll post some more footage at a later date. This was sailing from Courtmacsherry to Glandore - bombing along at over 7knts at times in a beam reach with 1 reef in the main.
Thalmia was launched in the aftermath of named storm Kathleen. A few problems emerged in the shakedown but only one was significant (I hope!). Now we make plans to sail from the Exe to Southern Ireland and up the "Wild Atlantic Coast". Follow by subscribing to this YouTube channel, in my blog at voyagesofthalmia.org or on Facebook with the same name. Thank you for your company.
Solo trip to Dartmouth as a shakedown for Thalmia (the yacht) and Derek (the skipper) - mostly the latter who needed to remember how to manage a 32ft boat singlehanded. Moored to a visitors buoy at Dittisham. Mostly all good - few exceptions which I will cover in a subsequent video!
2024 edition of the Exe Sails & Covers sponsored SYC Steamer pursuit race on the Exe Estuary.
A short review of 2023 - harbours, marinas and anchorages with drone footage, and a preview of plans for 2024.
A brief escape to Dartmouth and Brixham, hitting hull speed along the way!
Some rough nights and a tedious motor back from Portland. But ... great times in Poole, Lymington, Newtown River and Studland Bay. Aerial views of Newtown River at Low tide show what a delightful place it is, complete with basking seals!
After a couple of excellent weeks on Scilly on my bilge keel 1980 built Westerly Fulmar, I picked a day to return to the mainland, which was challenging, but not as bad as it would have been the days before or after! I stopped at the Helford, Salcombe and Dartmouth to find good weather windows. In the video I set out some of how I manage the boat singlehanded. Filmed with GoPro Hero7 Black, iPhone14 Pro and DJI mini3 Pro. Edited in DaVinci Resolve 18 free version.
A 32ft 1980 Westerly Fulmar and a 72 year old solo sailor in a cracking sail from Plymouth to the Isles of Scilly. With drone footage shot with due regard to the flight paths of the IoS Skybus and the helicopters! Shot with a GoPro Hero7 Black, iPhone 14 Pro and DJI Mini3 Pro. Edited in DaVinci Resolve 18 free version.
A change in plans led to a superb voyage along the Southwest visiting some of our beautiful harbours. Some drone shots will add interest! Shot with DJI Mini3 Pro, GoPro Hero 7 Black, and iPhone 14
After a winter lay-up on Topsham Quay. Thalmia, a 40+ yr old Westerly Fulmar is back "home" ready for new adventures in 2023 with her 72yr old skipper.
The Starcross Steamer, a pursuit race held at and organised by Starcross Yacht Club and sponsored by Ex Sails & Covers was held on Sunday 29th January. After a delayed start waiting for the wind to fill in it was an absolutely fabulous day for sailing and watching! I hope you enjoy this short video!
A VERY cut down edit of my circumnavigation in 2021 showing the ports and anchorages I used and how I managed day sails only and saw lots of wonderful places along the way! There are links to my longer videos in this edit. As has been pointed out by a comment my commentary refers to a stay in "west Loch Tarbert" which could be confused with the actual "West Loch Tarbert" which is in a very different place!
Get a foretaste of the lochs, the locks and bridges, and the wonderful scenery that is there for your enjoyment! Filmed with GoPro7 and iPhone XR. This is an abridged version of my transit through the Caledonian Canal in June 2021 with my wife as crew for this leg of my Round Britain Circumnavigation. Reworked from an iMovie using DaVinci Resolve. The longer original version is at: https://youtu.be/rXEV5F3vYLM
