I've managed to pul together a short video celebrating our CSSC Taster guests for 2024 season. RCSSC is a member of the Civil Service Sailing Association (CSSA) the Sailing Arm of the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC). We enjoy supporting sailing with CSSC members.
Rutland Civil Service Sailing Club (RCSSC) are a small and friendly sailing club, based at Rutland Sailing Club (RSC). RCSSC are member organisation of the wider Civil Service Sailing Association (CSSA) which is the Sailing Arm of the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC). We aim to make sailing fun, affordable and accessible to CSSC Members and friends.
A glorious day at Rutland Sailing Club sailing with fellow RCSSC members. A quick email "Fancy a Sail" and a good response. In the morning Mike Simmons, John Cranwell Ward and myself Dave Grundy, rigged and launched Squib Satyr - who looks very good in her newly painted decks and hull and new decking. It was just sooooo good to get back on the water, even if we could have done with more wind. We sailed up the south leg with variable winds - taking turns to helm. The wind dropped and with the forecast for winds to pick up, we agreed to take an early lunch, watch the racing and enjoy the sunshine. The forecast was right - the wind started to pick up, so we headed out for a quick sail with John helming before a crew Change with Steve Glen joining us. We enjoyed an afternoon with a decent breeze (sometimes dropping - hence the deck scrubbing) and sailed across to Whitwell, towards the dam head and then back towards RSC, taking turns on the helm. Great to sail in good company. Looking forward to the next sail.
Whilst I was waiting to greet our Taster guest on Saturday 18 May 24 in Rutland Sailing Club lounge bar, I was delighted to meet up with Lucy Hodge who was visiting RSC for the weekend. We hit it off and soon discovered we were both in the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC) [not the Civil Service Sailing Club as said in the video] . We had a brief but get talk about sailing , the CSSC etc etc. Turns out there is more to Lucy than meets the eye - inspiring. Check out the video. Absolute delight talking with you Lucy - hope to see you at Rutland Sailing Club (RSC) again sometime. Best of luck in your sailing endeavours. Ordinary Person, doing Amazing things.
So glad to have enjoyed a chance meeting with Lucy Hodges MBE, World Blind Sailing Champion, at Rutland Sailing Club (RSC) last Saturday 18 May 2024. We hadn't met before, didn't plan to, and I am so glad we did. It was Rutland Civil Service Sailing Club (RCSSC) first sailing taster session for the CSSC (Civil Service Sailing Sports Council) not Civil Service as I say on the video - Doh! I introduced myself as the Taster Events organiser for RCSSC and Lucy mentioned she was in the HMRC and a CSSC member too. What a coincidence. Always happy to say Hi to fellow CSSC members at Rutland Sailing Club (RSC) the home of RCSSC a small and friendly club, who sail keelboats: Squibs and a Soling. The other coincidence is my wife Ann, used to work for the RNIB (Royal National Institute for the Blind) for many years. We quickly swapped our 'why are you here today' stories and realised we were both keen sailors and members of CSSC. At the end of our 10 minutes chat, we agreed to do a very short video about out our serendipity meet-up. I think Lucy tells her story and promotes blind sailing, better than I can - so we made this very short video. Good to meet you Lucy, talk sailing and hope you will be able to join me for a sail at Rutland one day. Well done Rutland Sailing Club (the home club of RCSSC) for your support with the RS21's and Blind Sailing.
A rather nice father and son sail with Karl Grundy (and two grandson) on RCSSC Squibs with fellow members Mike Threadgill and John Cranwell Ward. Ideal sailing conditions.
A great father and son sail with Karl Grundy (and two grandson) on RCSSC Squibs with fellow members Mike Threadgill and John Cranwell Ward. Ideal sailing conditions. A couple of sailing events at Rutland Sailing Club set a great scene on the water too.
Fancy a sail on Rutland Water? RCSSC is a small and friendly sailing club and we enjoy sailing at Rutland Sailing Club . You can find out more about us on our website http://rutlandcssc.org.uk/rcssc-taster-events/
Mediterranean conditions saw six RCSSC volunteers take out both Squibs and our Soling for our CSSC Taster Sail guests (3 in the morning and 5 in the afternoon). The wind picked up to a F3-4 , warm, dry and sunny conditions. After a safety briefing it was time to issue buoyancy aids and it was time to head to the pontoon and joint he boats and RCSSC Helms for a sail on Rutland Water. In the morning we headed out on the south leg towards Manton and in open water we got the boats heeling and sailing well. In the afternoon we headed over towards Whitwell and dipped into the Northern leg of Rutland Water. All our guests and our volunteers had a wonderful sail in good company.
