Here are highlights from the 19-kilometer, 7-hour walk along the Tongariro Alpine Crossing on November 22, 2018. I made careful preparations and gave myself a few days to wait for decent weather. Do not underestimate the trail, terrain, or environment. There were two deaths on the trail in October/November 2018 - including one the day after I hiked it.

Highlights from two day hikes in southern Germany near Kreuth and Tegernsee.

I helped with a two-day yacht delivery down the western edge of Chilean Patagonia -- from Puerto Montt to the town of Castro in the Chiloé Archipelago. The boat is 58 feet. We didn't have a lot of wind as you can see, so we motored most of the time.

For two months, I helped a family with their Bed & Breakfast operation on Isla Tenglo, off the coast of Puerto Montt, Chile. I skippered a water taxi (small boat with outboard engine) and ferried guests between the mainland and the island. I also helped with general maintenance and yard work around the "Casa Roja" B&B

Highlights of our 1,200-mile sail from New Zealand to Fiji in May, 2017, aboard the sailing vessel Avalon. We left Marsden Point Marina (NZ) under sunny skies. Over the next 8-9 days, we faced some big wind, rain, and seas. But we were also becalmed for a couple days, floating in a completely flat and glassy South Pacific Ocean. It was eerie and unforgettable. (We don't carry enough fuel to just motor any time we want.) We finally arrived at Vuda Marina, Fiji, wearing big smiles and ordering pina coladas for breakfast! Highlights of our 1,200-mile sail from Fiji back to New Zealand in November, 2017, aboard the 50-foot sailing vessel Avalon. We made good time, and spent an extra few days cruising New Zealand's Hauraki Gulf, anchoring at Kawau Island and Rangitoto Island to explore.
