Moray Eels get a bad wrap for their gaping mouths and razor sharp teeth. Did you know the gaping of a Moray's mouth is just to push the water through their gills as a breathing mechanism? While you should be well aware of your actions around Moray Eels as they have very poor eye sight, they are not necessarily aggressive creatures. Ever wanted to know if Finding Nemo's "Crash" was an accurate portrayal of a sea Turtle. Well "Crash" was a Green Sea Turtle and this guy here is a Hawksbill Turtle. Join us for a truly epic wreck dive in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Just South West of the St Thomas airport lies The Miss Opportunity. Intentionally sunk in 1985, this 319 foot (118 m) long, former WWII Navy Hospital Barge lies on her Starboard side in the sand at 96 feet (29.3 m). Still fully intact, the inverted rooms feel like a scene from Alice in Wonderland with ceiling light fixtures below and mounted tables as well as other seemingly oddly placed objects above. And way down the rabbit hole you will journey as the entire length of the wreck can be penetrated, stern to an exit hole in the bow (as well as offering a variety of other large window exits throughout making this a very safe wreck penetration site). At the end of her life afloat The Miss Opportunity was used as office space in Charlotte Amalie, she is now home to a wide array of marine life including the Caribbean Reef Shark and the elusive Goliath Grouper. Fun fact: The Miss Opportunity was illegally sunk full of garbage which earned the disposal captain jail time. It was supposed to be sunk in deep water off the drop off. One of the Caribbean’s best kept secrets, the island of St Croix is almost completely surrounded by a barrier reef offering some of the best diving in the Virgin Islands. In this video we explore one of our favorite dive sites, located just off of St Croix's West shore. Devastated by Hurricane Hugo in 1989, the remains of St Croix‘s original Frederiksted Pier were gathered and sunk in Butler Bay at depths of 80-100 ft, creating an artificial reef for Caribbean Reef Sharks and named Armageddon. This is the story of two Northern folk who dropped the norm and sold it all to explore the world by sail. We quit life as we knew it, bought a factory-fresh, Lagoon 42 and hopped the big pond to our current home sea of the Caribbean. Our “backyard view” is in constant rotation as well as our adventures.Through it all we have gained great knowledge on what originally felt like a great mystery.
