Apparent wind is the direction of the wind what you feel while sailing. However, it is not the true wind direction. In this video I explain how to figure out what the difference is and how to use that information. Understanding why the true wind direction is always aft of the apparent wind will help you understand sail trim and aid in getting up wind.
This is a new video that replaces the two older jackline videos. It is a much better redesign. I no longer use any plastic clips and it is ever less expensive and easier to build. Using 4,200 lbs 1 inch nylon webbing this jackline should hold in the most severe conditions. A Jackline is suppose to keep you on the boat and I believe this design will accomplish this with minimal fuss. While every boat is different I hope the ideas presented here will help you design a jackline the works for you.
Sea sickness and motion sickness can be controlled! Using a simple exercise you can get your "Sea Legs" before you get on board! Please watch the entire video to get the most of the exercise. The only side effect of this program, if done correctly, is better health and balance! Most people can cure their sea sickness or motion sickness, all it just takes a little time every day for at least two weeks before you go out to sea.

In Part two I explain how we match the sail twist of the main sail to the twist of the jib. If you haven't seen part 1 please watch it first as it explain why the wind direction changes as you go up the mast and why we need sail twist to compensate. I also demonstrate setting the how to create an air channel between the main and the jib. Join the crew at https://www.patreon.com/captainlang
To get the fastest speed we need the shape the sail for the best airflow. Because of the effects of apparent wind and the change wind speed with altitude the apparent wind direction changes with height above the water. In this video I show how to safely adjust the Jib or genoa sheet traveler (Fairlead) and how to use a series of telltales to know when the sail twist is correct. This is the first video in a series on sail trim for speed. Join the crew at https://www.patreon.com/captainlang

While no single method works for all I am sure you will find something in this video that will help you prevent and cure your seasickness.
Heaving to is an important skill that is often overlooked. It is an excellent storm tactic and it can be used to "park" the boat in open water that is too deep to anchor. I recommend practicing heaving to in fair weather so when things are rough you can do it without have to think too much.
