We continue our sail down the Pacific coast of Baja California from Isla Cedros to Cabo San Lucas. Along the way we have close encounters with some whales, get surrounded by wildlife and enjoy the quietness of the remote anchorages. We fly our spinnaker for the first time and gain some experience launching and retrieving it without a sock. Once we arrive to Cabo we have to get adjusted to the chaos after spending 3 weeks without hardly seeing anyone. 00:00 - Intro 00:19 - Leaving Cedros 02:30 - Close encounter with a Whale while sailing 02:50 - Hiding from the swell in Turtle Bay 04:00 - Flying the spinnaker for the first time to Magdelena Bay 08:50 - Sailing Montage 12:40 - Surrounded by Wildlife in Magdelena Bay 15:15 - Leaving Magdelena Bay 20:00 - Dropping the spinnaker in 20 knots of wind 22:30 - Arriving to Cabo Shop all the stuff we used for our electrical installation in our Amazon store https://amzn.to/48XH7Yp As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases Shop at totalboat through the following link and we get a small commision https://www.totalboat.com/?sca_ref=10452703.BZVlcqrIV7 Want to get your own Sailors Pillow? In this video, we fix 20 years of neglected maintenance on our Yanmar Heat Exchanger and our water heater. We swapped the heat exchanger for a brand-new unit, costing us $ 2,000, because some $1 O-rings weren't replaced on time. When we swapped out the heating element in our water heater, we found a big surprise: buildup inside. We clean it out before installing the new 230V heating element. We remove one of our rudders while the boat is in the water to figure out how to fix them. During our pre purchase survey we found out that both of the rudders had water ingress. We got a big reduction in price but now we have to fix them before we start crossing some oceans. This was one of the major reasons why we got the boat for such a low price. In this video we create a plan on what needs to be done to rebuild them. Want to help us out? Shop our favourite tools and parts used on Amazon and we get a small commission. In this video I wire our solar panels to the battery system. Doing it properly means installing PV breakers, using a sepperate MPPT controller for every panel and making sure all the wiring is terminated properly, protected from the elements and secured well. I also introduce you to another hobby of mine, paragliding! I had some good flying days at Torrey Pines gliderport, with amazing views over the ocean, and billionaires row. Want to help us out? In this video we do a deep dive into the different voltage options for off grid installations on Boats or RV's. With all the hype around 48V these days it is good to have a down to earth look at the different options and their pros and Cons. In short we can say: 12V best for simple installations with a maximum inverter size of 3000W 24V A happy medium for installations that have larger DC loads which can run on 24V and medium sized inverters up to 10.000W 48V The best if you are having huge DC loads like electric propulsion engines or want to run huge inverter loads. Often used in home battery storage systems or (hybrid) electric boats. Want to help us out? Buy new engine mounts for your engine on www.ellebogen.com They have engine mounts for almost all marine engines and can help you in the selection of the right model. As our old engine mounts were severly rusted from some water leaks on the engine it was time to swap them out for some nice and shiny new ones. Ellebogen sponsored us with a complete set of new mounts. Installation is just a matter of lifting up the engine, getting the old mount out, setting the height on the new mount and putting it back. They are a direct replacement with the same hole patern as the original Yanmar mounts. Want to help us out? While servicing the starboard engine we find out the coolant is just completely black... On thing turns into another and we are taking off the whole heat exchanger on this Yanmar engine to clean it up. 20+ years of neglect have not done this heat exchanger well and the O rings were just completely gone. This has led to salt water mixing with the coolant and corroding the engine block causing the coolant to turn completely black and filled with rust particles. After many flushes, cleaning and more flushes we get back to a usable system again. Want to help us out? We bought a cheap and neglected 49ft Performance catamaran for just $52.500. It is an Ocean Cat 49 built in 2000, and we are in the process of refitting it and getting it sailing again so we can continue our voyage around the world. Hop along for the ride while we try and give this incredible boat a second chance at life and finally crossing some oceans. Fixing stuff along the way and creating an incredible floating home.
