We are in phase two of our Great American Desert Circumnavigation Road Trip. We depart Phoenix headed west en route to Joshua Tree National Park where we revel in this sometimes surreal Mojave High-Desert landscape and for the first time in 30 years, Brian attempts Gunsmoke, a hard to find boulder problem traverse that makes your "guns smoke". We then take a right turn and head North through the Owens River Valley, taking in the beauty of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. We make a stop at the quirky and wild lMono Lake, before making one last major stop at Lake Tahoe. This roughly 3000 mile road trip was full of amazing landscapes, interesting foods, and beauty to die for. Although not an easy trip during a pandemic. We were so happy that we did it. They find amazing food in Trump Country, almost run out of gas in the middle of nowhere, are awestruck by open pit gold mines in Nevada, get pulled over by an old school sheriff and land in the heart of sin city. We sail from Todd Inlet on Vancouver Island to Granville Island in the heart of Vancouver BC. Two perfect beam reaches West to East and from East to West across the Georgia Strait. The Salish Sea has 54 degree water and we are unafraid to jump in. We see the boat and the crew of SV Maiden in downtown Seattle.
