This is a raw and honest review between our experience between Iridium Go and Inreach service while cruising and sailing. We are giving our honest review of the different Satellite service as we are on our Ocean Crossing From Cabos San Lucas, Mexico To Hawaii on our 1988 Catalina 34.

After a 2 months boat refit. We finally splash the boat in the Sea of Cortez. It's Nat's first time sailing on SV Bria Mia. We get some provisioning done before crossing to Baja before sailing South. We wrapped up our 2 months refit at the Boatyard in San Carlos, Mexico. We finished some electrical work and got some welding work done. We upgraded our cruising comfort with new princess seats in the cockpit, nice swim steps and new handlebars on the transom of our Catalina 34. We got a brand new rudder and renamed the boat. Lastly, we slapped a quick coat of paint before we got her wet!

While we were sailing in Mexico, we got most of our fish while Spearfishing. As we were experimenting and learning, I got my spear stuck at depth and I crushed my depth record twice that day. First time beyond 40 ft and crushed that record right after recovering my spear and the fish @ recorded depth of 52ft. Definitely not a world record but it was a big mile stone for me.

BOAT REFIT PART 3 and ERIC's Birthday. In this episode, we continue our boat refit in the San Carlos Marina in Mexico. We first celebrate Eric's 31st birthday and go right back to business. Since we got a compost toilet, we got rid of the 2 through hulls we didn't need anymore and refiberglassed them. We also got a new oversized windlass and had to do a major fiberglass project in order to get rid of the previous windlass deck hole.

We continue outfitting our boat for the season and focus on the electrical system. We replace our hatch, repair our water tank and drive to Phoenix to pickup our new rudder. While in San Carlos working hard at the boatyard, we give ourselves a break and take the dinghy out to spearfish in the chilly waters. Made possible by you! This special episode narrated by Kona shows our adventure from a dog's perspective. We have a couple of first timers as crew and cross from the mainland to Baja after exploring some of the surfing towns in the Puerto Vallarta area. We try to get our ducks in a row in preparation for the South Pacific crossing, but unfortunately, have to cancel doing it this season.

We start our long stay on the hard outfitting the boat with tons of upgrades. We re-embed our chain plates, switch to a compost head and install a new bow roller and anchor. We got ourselves a machete last season for the sole purpose of opening coconuts with it (and to fend off pirates =P). We embark on a road trip, 5,000 kilometers journey from Vancouver to Montreal and encounter a few bumps along the way. We get creative at finding the best free campsite in some amazing places. We check out some great spots in Canada and the US and face a major thunderstorm while on the road. Once in San Carlos, after crossing the Sea of Cortez from Loreto, it was time to prepare SV Blackdragon for the hurricane season. I had to remove all halyards, sails, fresh water-flush everything, etc. I spent some time with friends from SV Passport and SV Double D around some langostinos. The day I was leaving, the marina got hit by a hurricane that got downgraded to a Tropical Storm. Kona, my dog on board, gets to experience her first flight and I finally get back to Canada for a wild summer. Made possible by you! After cancelling the South-Pacific crossing, I decided to sail North before the hurricane season. I really enjoyed singlehanding the Sea of Cortez way more than I was expecting. Pryce FISH JERKY RECIPE: -------------------- What you'll need: -Plastic bag -Fresh fish (trigger, cabrilla, parrot, yellowtail or what is recommended to you) -Sesame oil -Natural sugar (can substitute for honey, agave, maple syrup, or other) -Soy sauce -Salt 1. Cut your fish into french fries (British chips) shape 2. Put your fish in a plastic bag with all the ingredient and let it marinate for 2-3 hours 3. Use a string and thread it thru the fish 4. Tie it up on deck and let it dry under the sun for half a day for a chewy texture, or a full day for a fish jerky texture (this will allow it to last longer, but it will be a bit harder to chew) 5.
