Banderas Bay was an amazing place and we strongly recommend any boater to check it out. many get stuck there and there are penty reasons to stay. Ahoy, As our Crossing proceeds we stopped at Isla Socorro. A legendary dive destination to see big sharks and the huge Oceanic Manta Rays. As this is something we all had on our Bucketlist we dove down and found them. Or did they found us? What a pleasure to see the Mantas gliding through the crystal clear water, seemingly motionless, elegant and majestic. It also looked like the sharks liked ZERO and we were surrounded by Silky, Grey and Whitetip sharks. Even though most of the crew never saw a shark so close we all enjoyed it and overcame our anxieties.. Ahoy, we eventually crossed the line. A sailor's dream, an accomplishment which circles in the same range as climbing one of the high peaks of our planet. We were so excited and the stories the captain spread made us even more excited. He told us about a court and a trial with King Neptune and that we have to pay for our sins and we need to sacrifice what we love, that it will be ugly and that there is no way of avoiding it. It's the law of the King and he rules hard with tadpoles who doesn't respect it. So don't argue or wine about it! OK, where was that written when we signed up for the trip? Ahoy, When we went down to El Salvador things changed. The whole World changed. And like many others we were faced with a situation we never experienced before. The borders worldwide closed because of the Covid Virus. The initial plan to sail down to Panama and then turn west and head for French Polynesia needed some adjustments. We needed to make a decision what to do next. We decided to skip it and sail back to Mexico. Provisioning wasn't a big thing as ZERO was loaded with food so we said good bye to beautiful El Salvador, hoisted a bunch of sails and left. Ahoy, Bahia del Sol in El Salvador always triggers words like safe anchorage, hurricane hole and friendly people if you mention it to other cruisers. But there also pop up words like big waves, crossing the river bar and fear. It's a beautiful place and a really safe anchorage, the locals are friendly and there are many reasons to go there and only 1 not to go. Crossing the river bar is not for the faint hearted. We actually went back and forth to go there or skip it. We eventually decided to go and added an adventure to our memories we'll never forget. We don't think we were in real danger. Crew and ship were well prepared and we got local knowledge to guide us but you never know and with waves powerful enough to push ZERO over the 19kn mark anything can happen.. We celebrate new years eve in Sayulita, a so called ?pueblo magico?. It is of great cultural and architectural value for the country and we agree, a magical place. We sail with humpback whales across Bahia Banderas to Yelapa, another stunning place in the big Bay. It could be the greenest spot on the pacific coast of Mexico. It welcomes you with a lush jungle surrounded by three waterfalls. It is a place you have never seen before. A lot of steps are winding up the hill to narrow alleys along the village and donkey poop everywhere! It's one of their main transportation over there.
