After months of projects, upgrades, and hard work, Zephyr 2.0 is finally starting to become the boat we’ve always dreamed of. This episode takes us to the Bahamas where James tackles one of the biggest transformation projects yet. Out goes the tired old lazy bag and in comes a beautiful new custom setup from Precision Sails—and wow, what a difference! It’s one of those upgrades that completely changes the look of the boat and brings Zephyr 2.0 to life. But this episode is also a little bittersweet. Back in Spain, I make an appearance with all three doggos and a very large baby bump to share a personal update. At 8.5 months pregnant and with James busy chartering in the Bahamas, we’ve had to hit pause on filming for a little while. In our last episode we splashed the boat and moved her to a new marina… and now somehow we’re already in the Bahamas?! Things moved fast after that. My dad flew out to help James bring our new catamaran all the way from a freezing North Carolina down to the Bahamas. Unfortunately the cameras didn’t quite keep up with the journey, but thankfully they had a successful trip with only a few minor hiccups along the way. Now that she’s safely made it to these beautiful blue waters, the project list officially begins. One of the first things we wanted to tackle was replacing the old trampoline — not only to freshen up the look of the boat, but for safety too. After weeks of preparation, stress, and problem-solving, our new Fountaine Pajot Venezia 42 finally goes back in the water for the very first time. In this episode, James prepares the boat for launch day, checks the systems once she splashes, and attempts the first proper move to a new marina… even after one of the engines immediately starts causing problems. Despite the setbacks, the first shakedown of the boat ends up being a huge milestone for us after everything it took just to get to this point. After 13 months away from sailing, stepping back into boat life has been a lot more intense than expected. In the last episode, we shared our return to YouTube after selling our Beneteau Oceanis 43 and buying an older boat in hopes of building a more sustainable future on the water. But the reality of getting everything ready has been stressful from the very beginning. With only a short timeline to get the boat ready for the water, James has been dealing with problem after problem almost entirely on his own — trying to work through a long list of jobs, unexpected issues, and the pressure of getting everything ready in time. Most of the work hasn’t even been filmed… simply because there hasn’t been time. Join us as we leave the boatyard behind in North Carolina and make our way down the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) to Charleston, SC. After dealing with a frustrating bridge delay, we finally head out into the Atlantic Ocean, aiming for Fernandina Beach, Florida. To replace Zephyr´s coupling and shaft seal as quickly as possible to stop our saltwater leak that held us back on our journey south.
