The week our family is exploring Tonga! We sail to Tonga and catch a tuna on the way. We raft up to another boat at the customs dock and wait to officially check into Tonga. Jack finds the Tonga flag and marks this country on our map! We hop around the different anchorages of Tonga with 5 or 6 other kid boats exploring caves, celebrating birthdays, wing foiling, and going to a Tongan feast. We start the process of applying for our New Zealand visas. Boat life is not complete without boat repairs - our watermaker and windlass start having issues. Our windlass leaves us pulling up our anchor in a hurry with our electric winch. We see the most beautiful island of Tonga and John gets injured while we are there. The week our family is exploring and LOVING Niue! We see it all - caves, chasms, and cliffs! And quite a few whale sightings, more than we have seen anywhere else. We also get to swim in some of the clearest water in the world! It's so beautiful! Daniel and the boys also swim in the creepiest water (but CLEAR!) in the dark chasm of Anapala. We fixed everything that broke on our sail to Niue from Bora Bora. Jenna climbs the mast to help with projects. Everything gets complete so we can check out of Niue and start sailing to Tonga. Our family of six lives on a sailboat and this week it's time for us to leave French Polynesia because our visas are running out. We do a final hike up to the World War II cannons and check out of Bora Bora. We raise the sails and start our 1000 nm journey across the Pacific Ocean. We skip over the Cook Islands and set our sights on a place we'd never heard of - Niue. On the way, we celebrate Jenna's birthday and experience some rough seas. We also do some deep sea fishing! This week we are in vacation mode making our way through the Society Islands of French Polynesia. Daniel's parents are staying on board and we are truly living our best life. We island hop from Moorea all the way to Bora Bora before Daniel's parents have to head back home. We are in beautiful Tahiti prepping for Daniel's parents coming to visit. We move to the airport anchorage and visit Papeete. We find a thimble for Jessa's collection, boat parts, provisions and see the closing parade for the Olympics. We finally get the toilet back working just in time for my in-laws arrival! Right after Daniel's parents arrive, a boat drags anchor right beside us. Daniel and Jack drop the dinghy to see what they can do to help. Dan hops on board, moves the dragging boat and gets the anchor reset. We've loved the remoteness and isolation of the Tuamotus - it's amazing being able to focus on our family and our time together. We leave Tahanea behind and have rough seas on our way to Fakarava. We tour a pearl farm and see the Topaka lighthouse. We sail to Tahiti but not without having a military plane fly by our boat - hailing us to remind us of the Olympic surfing restrictions. We find out Daniel's parents are coming in a week and scramble to gather provisions for our party of 8.
