I had almost everything in my life that I thought I wanted. On the outside everything was awesome. Yet something was missing.... This is a personal story about a challenge that I believe many people are faced with in the world today. Some choose to keep their struggle with these challenges private, and that's ok. I've decided to share this because I believe this is a topic that needs to be talked about and this video is a message that needs to be shared. I believe when we choose to share our truth with the world we help others grow and we ourselves grow. We don't have to face life alone. If you're ready to make a change in your life this is an invitation to reach out. I've been there and I'm here to help. As Charlie Brown says, "Asking for help isn't weak, it's a great example of how to take care of yourself". Four years ago I was running a financial sales business in Vancouver, Canda when I realized I was living someone else's life, going after someone else's dreams, and was absolutely miserable. So I sold the business, radically changed my life, and have never looked back. I've spent the last 3.5 years traveling the world on a sailboat with my young family where we've been fortunate to be able to go on adventures to remote places and connect with people from cultures far different from my own. This is the place I get to share those stories. This channel is about providing you with a lens into parts of the world, people, and histories that are not often seen or heard. There are many ways to live life on this planet and I've been fortunate to experience a few radically different ones. My hope is that by watching my videos you learn something about the outside world, or about yourself that challenges your perspective and perhaps shifts it in a way that brings maybe just a little more peace and happiness to your life. Sometimes we don't think to question the beliefs that we're raised with. Our experience visiting the largest Spirit House in the Solomons on Santa Ana provides a great example of the negative consequences that can arise from not challenging our beliefs. Looking at this through the lens of our "western" values of freedom and equality of rights both Sayo and I found it hard to accept what these people seem to take for granted. That woman are not allowed to do what men are. This week's episode brings us back to 2019 when we arrived at one of the most isolated islands in the world and spent time living with the people there. They are so far off the grid they live without any stores, restaurants or hospitals and without what many of us believe is now a fundamental right, access to the internet. It's hard to believe, but these people are so isolated most of them do not know what youtube, facebook or even what google is. The northern south pacific between Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands is one of the most remote regions in the entire world. Most of the people living on these remote islands spend their entire lives here and never leave the island they were born on. I really enjoyed making this episode, it's a positive story and if it resonates with you please share it. I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. The people of Torba Province in Vanuatu are literally the happiest people in the world according to a recent "happiness index" report. In this episode I try to find out why. Did you know that the women from Gaua island in Vanuatu make music with the ocean? They make some of coolest sounds I've ever heard and turn them into really powerful music. Have a listen and let me know what you think. I get a behind the scenes look at how they do this and some impromptu water music lessons this week as we begin our adventure into some of the most remote regions in the South Pacific. Our first stop is Lakona village on the west side of Gaua in the Banks group of islands, the home of Vanuatu Water Music. This week we go off the beaten track deep into the wilderness of Vanuatu in search of virgin hot springs and underwater hot springs. We find one right under one of Vanuatu's most famous Volcanoes. This episode takes me to one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world where we experience a national celebration held only four times in the past 30 years. Vanuatu is the start of WWII Relic heaven in the South Pacific. It has some of the friendliest people and it's also the best place to find and swim with Seacows! This week I find out from a couple villagers the location of two WWII airplanes sunk in shallow water off the coast of a nearby island and we head out in search of them. But first we go to shore and take you with us on a walkthrough of a traditional Vanuatu village. Sorry for the delay in getting this video up. We're in the most remote island we've been to so far and I'm doing my best to get internet and get videos up. We explore and abandoned resort on Kakhula island in Vanuatu then get ready to sail off towards Epi and Malekula to get ready for the Vanuatu National Arts and Culture Festival. But before we head out I have to figure out how to fix our broken code zero furler..... I found out later that this resort caused quite a controversy on Trip Advisor a few years back because supposedly no one knew what happened to it. ******************************************** My name is Chris and I love history. Welcome to Port Vila, Vanuatu! Vanuatu is truly the last frontier of the South Pacific and this week it did not disappoint. It took me literally a week to figure out how to get a decent internet connection and even then it's rarely good enough to Skype the Grandparents. This week we find a Superyacht on a reef and have a ton of fun at a DIY Wet and Wild Adventure park! I will be posting a video every other Monday at 10am (UTC +11 - Solomons and New Cal time) while we move through Vanuatu, the Solomons and PNG. (Internet Access Depending) This region is not the best for internet access but I'll do my best to stay regular!
It's time to leave Fiji and head deeper into the South Pacific! First up we have a 3 day sail from Fiji to Port Vila, Vanuatu. As ocean crossings go this one was pretty smooth, aside from one night of nasty weather and a few broken bits. The kids loved this one! ************* My name is Chris and I love history. There are many reasons to set sail for the South Pacific. Swimming with Mantas, hunting WWII Relics and taking in postcard-perfect scenery are top of the list. After swimming with Mantas in Fiji's famous Manta Ray Bay, we hear a rarely seen WWII Airplane is 5m underwater in a lagoon only 4 miles away and set off on a Relic Hunt. ************* My name is Chris and I love history. Beneath Fiji's serene exterior there is a massive fight happening that not many people know about. David is taking on Goliath in the form of two Aussie surfers standing up to corruption and bullying at the hands of the Fijian Government and an opportunistic Chinese Developer. In the process of checking this out, I crash my drone on the land of the outlaw Chinese Developers and try to figure out how to rescue it. After spending a total of almost 12 months sailing Fiji these are my top 5 must see places. All of these places are worth spending months in individually. I know we don't all have that amount of time but what I've found in Fiji is the more time you spend here the better it gets! This year is our third year in Fiji. It's one of the cheapest, friendliest and definitely easiest spots to sail in the South Pacific. It's hard to leave and there's so much worth seeing. We've met many yachties who've found Fiji's charms irresistible and are still cruising going on 5, 10, even 15 years! ************* My name is Chris and I love history.
