#multihull #multihullsailing #sailingvideos Sailing to New Zealand can be a worry for many sailors - this is our 2nd trip there from New Caledonia and some social media folks asked me to please share a few details about our passage. We have a number of deep low and high high pressure systems around as well as convergence which brings on rain and thunderstorms, however convergence between the systems also allows us a more direct route to New Zealand which otherwise usually means sailing a semi circle that leads towards Australia before heading for New Zealand. We make use of several weather programs, our Polars set up of for the boat as well as our beautiful B&G radar with Doppler technology to see which way systems are moving. I actually made this video for our Facebook Page - IMPI -https://www.facebook.com/catamaranimpi https://fb.watch/gFB3T6bFUd/ Well friends, I know this video is way out of sync with he previous videos and I have yet to complete the series 'We sailed into Covid' which is about our time sailing in Indonesia, but I thought this may add to some information for sailors looking to make a passage for New Zealand ... Cheers everyone

We sailed into covid EP3 (Arborek, Deer Island, Hoga Island), Aircraft Chemtrails, Sinking Ships ...
Hi Everyone - In this episode Impi continues exploring Indonesia. We depart the beautiful islands of Raja Ampat for Hoga Island in the Wakatobi Regency. Our departure is from the amazingly beautiful and arty island of Arborek in Raja Ampat and means we have to sail across the top of Buru Island (third largest of the Maluku Islands) En route we duck into an island group for Deer Island to avoid weather. WEATHER is totally erratic and although we've studied it carefully we are unable to avoid the discomfort. We realise this is to be expected with sailing places 'out of season' however the weather programs are not anywhere close. We observe what appears to be aircraft seeding a weather front possibly to create rain for the dry region, however we are not sure of these facts but we do see a severe front developing from the trails left by the aircraft which makes us wonder ... perhaps it's more about the weather Jet streams ? A massive storm at night has us on sharp alert to keep our catamaran afloat - it's literally survival style conditions but our Lagoon 440 makes it through. Sadly we sail into debris and later learn a ship had capsized in our vicinity . At Hoga island we interview a very interesting fellow South African doing reef restoration and more - I'm sure you'll find this interesting. Our discussion covers reef restoration techniques, the company who produce Mars chocolate bars and their input into reef restoration, diving the area and some dramatic discussions about getting caught up in down currents (downdrafts) Well, we hope this video is informative especially for those wishing to sail this region and in general, we found these visits very interesting for ourselves TIMESTAMP: 00:00 Intro 00:40 Arborek a brief look at the island 02:54 Diving Yangello 04:00 Diving Arborek 04:25 Sailing for Deer Island 05:15 Map of sailing ground 05:40 Arrive Deer Island 07:35 Beraar - Sailing past - Mangimangi, Walo Islands 09:24 Sailing for Hoga Island 09:30 "Chemtrails" or not ? Hi Everyone - IN this episode we sail from Australia into INDONESIA - the KAI islands, BALBULOL, RAJA AMPAT - we sail there out of season and having broken away from the Indonesian rally group. This footage is before COVID hit us all and it's shared as some BEAUTIFUL stories emerge from our interaction with the Indonesian people and how they eventually help Impi to sail back when covid id feared by all there. The links to these stories will unfold in future movies in this series 'We sailed into Covid' so keep a look out for those. We share TIPS on what we look out for as sailors when leaving Australia's Torres Straits, Thursday Island bound for Kai Islands so in a way it's geared to help other sailors get the basics and make their journey to Indonesia more comfortable and safe and it also shows some of the amazing beauty and experiences of this region. SAILING, DIVING, DISCOVERING is a great part of what we do with our lives. TURTLES LAY EGGS whilst HATCHLINGS HATCH and dash for beach hoping to escape seagulls and crabs that would make a meal of them. By the time the little ones manage to reach the water REEF SHARKS lie in wait for a good meal of them - it's quite heart breaking sometimes to see these cute little creatures having to struggle for survival, but then again THIS IS THE CIRCLE OF LIFE and the complete circle is something few will get to see in one place at one time. This amazed us by our time at LADY MUSGRAVE, a very beautiful island and part of the Great Barrier Reef off the Queensland coast of AUSTRALIA. We've captured a few moments for your viewing pleasure and we hope you enjoy . (Ps. I realise we are busy with a series 'Sailing into Covid' - our times through Indonesia) however this movie is a 'current time fill in' and filmed as recently as yesterday. #multihull #multihullsailing #sailingvideos
#multihull #multihullsailing #sailingvideos WE SAILED INTO COVID EP1 SAILING EAST COAST AUSTRALIA FOR INDONESIA Following our stories' told to other sailors in the sailing community about our time in Indonesia pre covid, the relationships formed in the 'good times' and how people helped us overcome massive obstacles as we find our way back though a country where clearly people are afraid of foreigners and the covid virus spread, a naval ship coming to our support when two fishing boats were following us through the night and possibly looking to board and pirate us, a storm we went through that capsized a ship and islands strictly closed to all boats opening their doors to Impi for protection - some incredible experiences. This is a SERIES of videos about leaving South Port Australia for Thursday Island where we'd clear out of Australia for a tour of Indonesia, Malaysia, South Thailand and on entering WEST SUMATRA we also enter into COIVD. THIS VIDEO is long - very long - but we hope to share for sailors following our path some of the highlights in cruising East Coast Australia, tidal variations and associated currents along the coast, some sailing tips we've learned along the way and more. For this reason the video is intended as one to be watched 'SLOWLY' - take a bit in and come back later for more ? Polishing fuel, transferring fuel and treating fuel is important on boats. It's especially important when visiting countries such as Indonesia where one should have the ability to polish and treat diesel fuel. NOTE: We are NOT SPONSORED by anyone for any products mentioned. Many folks ask us how we did this and I'm hoping this video will show those how we managed to do this at a FRACTION OF THE COST of most systems whilst proving to be a VERY EFFICIENT way of treating fuel. We receive NO REMUNERATION from companies for products we share here and / or company and brand names mentioned - this is purely us sharing with you how we did it on our boat. Hi Everyone. This video shows how an ordinary sailor dude who is not a carpenter replaces individual teak planks within an existing teak deck on our catamaran. Some wood sections wear differently to others over time and I wanted to replace these as opposed to replacing the entire deck. Our teak deck is 13 years onboard our full time cruising catamaran and this is the first time we will need to replace planks and sand the deck down. Because the deck still has a general overall nice feel and look to it, I'm wanting to do minimal sanding hoping a repair like this will get me another 4 years. After looking for information I found a lot of videos on YT showing Teak Deck repairs but I didn't see any where individual planks were being g removed and replaced so I thought this may help ordinary sailors / owners like me to get more time out of their teak decks. Cheers everyone #multihull #multihullsailing #sailingvideos
La Vagabonde "Riley' presents some interesting facts about sailing catamarans @Sailing La Vagabonde - The Bruce Factor etc. Later in the video he asks Impi if we would make a comment based on our experiences of sailing all these years and many miles on a Lagoon 440. Thanks La Vagabond for engaging and raising very pertinent topics: See their video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGD5pmANdgA Great boat they have, great family from a great nation - AUSTRALIA #multihull #multihullsailing #sailingvideos
#multihull #multihullsailing #sailingvideos After a TOUGH passage running from COVID-19 we entered Australia (CAIRNS) from West Sumatra - some 5000nm with half of it up wind. In Australia we've been shown the amazing and typical Australian hospitality while we hang out in The Whitsundays over AIRLIE BEACH RACE WEEK. Julian Griffiths (Noosa Marine) and Michel Van Der Zwaard (Owner of the EXTREME 40 catamaran - BACK IN BLACK - invited us to sail this racing machine. Due to many requests from people to share where we have been sailing during COVID-19 we start with some explanation about that, and then jump into AIRLIE BEACH RACE WEEK with this amazing machine. Back in Australia we've taken on the task of supporting the animal welfare initiative in New Caledonia - unfortunately some sponsorships have fallen away since we sailed out of the region and this program is really needed on the outer islands. Catamaran IMPI is sailing around the world. In this series we are sailing in INDONESIA - It's OUT OF SEASON for sailing RAJA AMAPT but we are LOVING IT !!! We share some of our dives - Insanely beautiful, a stunning 'hide away marina' (I say so because very few sailors know of it's existence and yet, for Indonesia this place is a treasure for what otherwise is a very remote sailing territory for services offered to sailboats. In our previous episode, we've come through some heavy weather to get here, and this episode we show why it was WORTH IT ! Meet some of the folks at Meridian Dive Adventures and 'Waisai Marina' (as some of us to refer it) - A number of South Africans along with local folks operate here. We show you some of the programs for youngsters here, young sea cadets being trained in military style to become seamen - once trained - they are the most sought after sea cadets for commercial operations in the world. MERIDIAN ADVENTURES SAIL, DIVE, RESORT We end this video where we will begin in our next episode - preparing to cross through Kabui Pass which has been passed by a number of sailboats, yet is feared by many sailors and captains we've spoken to. We hope you enjoy P.s. We are NOT advertising for anyone here - we recieve no monetary gain from sharing this with you - we do it from a space of love - we do it because we always believe we should share the AMAZING things we discover on our journey, including people and services. DIESEL - Before departing for Indonesia we were told diesel is dirty and is a huge problem for boats in Indonesia. For this reason and because we love running our air conditioners day and night in Indo, we decided to load the boat with full tanks, pleanty of diesel drums etc. - it's heavy and slows the boat down adding a lot of pressure to the sails. This is why discovering Waisai (Meridian Adventures) Marina is such a treasure. Had we known this, we could have sailed lighter out of Australia. WOW, WOW, WOW - OUR BIGGEST WELCOME EVER !!!! DEBUT - K A I I S L A N D S Catamaran IMPI has been sailing around the world - some 8 years full time now and in all this time we have never received as great a welcome into any country as right here in the KAI Islands of Indonesia ? a place known as DEBUT. Some sailors told us not to expect much in Debut, however our experience has been one of PURE DELIGHT and absolute awe. The effort these people have shown in making us feel welcome is exceptional and also very humbling when one considers the poverty in Indonesia being the situation for many - it feels to me the folks would literally take the last shirt off their backs and give it to anyone in need. The Regent who is the elected ruler of the regency or 'district' (for want of a better word) is truly an amazing man with great leadership skills. In our short time with him it became evident that the man truly wants to deliver for his people, that he truly values visitors to his region. To this end it is clear he could not have received as much monetary return from us sailors as what it cost the region to entertain and dine us - an investment which undoubtedly is going to benefit his people in the long run because so many will want to experience the joy and delight of being welcomed into Indonesia this way. This video will show some glimpse of the generosity bestowed on the sailors entering here with the 'Multihull wonderful sail to Indonesia Rally' supported this year by 'The Down Under Rally' (Go North Rally). Being the 'lone range sailors' we always have been, we are not sailors who would usually make use of a Rally Group to tour countries, however, those who have followed our adventures will know the 'Down Under Rally' have been amazing in cost saving deals for yachts sailing into Australia and also became sponsors of our animal welfare program in New Caledonia. Because John Hembrow, who is the founder and director of Down Under Rally had formed an alliance with "Multihull, Wonderful sail to Indonesia', we felt it would be a good opportunity to use the rally as a means to enter Indonesia which can be quite complex in terms of paperwork, visas, sponsor letters and so on. We are really pleased we took part in the 'Welcome ceremony' at Debut - we fell on love with the people right away - they are a happy, generous and engaging people who show delight in their visitors and enjoy a good laugh or two. In this video I have tried to capture some of the vibe, some of the local folks culture and hope I can give Debut, it's people and it's leaders some credit for their amazing friendship. People here warmed up to us right away - in some regards we felt like we were right back at home in South Africa - we took part in dancing (a little on the wild side) and not being a great dancer the locals laughed and enjoyed the misplaced foot movements and wiggle of the hips - they even called for IMPI over the loudspeakers for an 'on the spot interview' - lol ! Ana and I feel so blessed and totally excited to be part of such a wonderful bunch of sailors on this years rally - truly - all of them such nice people so it was sad when we kept to our dream and sailed away from the team who all headed south - we headed north for Raja Ampat instead and are currently enjoying this region. I will share some of our footage of Balbulol on Misool, diving in beautiful places and beautiful little islands like Wofoh where the locals tell me is some of the best diving in all of Indonesia (and it is amazing) - and of course our 'WOW' visit to WAYAG which to date is the most intriguing and most beautiful place I have ever anchored in. But - all that will follow in our next videos. Cheers everyone Impi Out! #multihull #multihullsailing #sailingvideos
READ THIS DESCRIPTION FOR BEST OPTIONS: Catamaran Impi is sailing around the world. For Impi, cruising pleasure comes from doing preventative maintenance projects and this is about our QUICK windlass strip and assemble project with a 10 year old windlass on a boat that sails full time and occupants who live at anchor all over the world. I am not one to feel passionate about doing technical videos, however, when folks heard I was stripping our windlass to replace bearings and seals, brushes to the motor and more, they asked me to please video the event. This video is therefore for ordinary sailors like you and me (and not for the expert) - it is how we achieve this with limited means and with limited resources to tools living on our boat.
