Elle raconte qu'à un moment, elle s'est surprise à parler à haute voix à son bateau comme à une personne : ? « Je lui disais : Tiens bon, mon grand. Allez, on y va tous les deux, on sort de là ensemble. » ?? Ce moment d'intimité entre la navigatrice et son voilier illustre magnifiquement la relation fusionnelle que peuvent entretenir les marins avec leur embarcation, surtout dans les situations extrêmes.
