We have a close encounter with large illegal Chinese fishing boats (poachers) while sailing in heavy seas 150 miles off the coast of Uruguay during a winter storm in the South Atlantic Ocean. The fishing boats were later pursued by the Uruguay Navy and Coast Guard, caught, and arrested. These boats were maneuvering dangerously and aggressively on a collision course with our sailboat, in heavy seas and low visibility, during a southern ocean storm, while sailing at night, in disregard of international navigational rules, and with improper AIS signals. The so-called Lazy River is about 7nm from George Town. We visited this special spot twice. The second time, we essentially had the entire beach to ourselves for most of the day. It's very pretty and, IMHO, a must visit if you make it down to George Town and the Moriah Harbor National Park.
