In this video we're sailing upwind in 35+ knots of breeze in Johnstone Strait during the VanIsle360 race with a double-reefed main sail and storm jib. A crew member is on the foredeck securing the #3 jib we had previously been flying in the short video https://youtube.com/shorts/VRAEp8M49Y4, but ripped in half. The head literally ripped right off. He is wearing a harness and tether! The sky is completely blue, but everybody is still completely soaked from the spray. Lots of sails were destroyed in that leg, including the #3 jib that is now on the foredeck. ? How to tie the Bowline. A Super Easy method. You could call this "Spock's Bowline". ..... If you sometimes struggle with the bowline, which way to coil or twist the loop in, which side of the standing part to loop the working end round, blah, blah, blah, then try this method. It uses your hand as a "Bowline Guide"..it's logical Cap'n. .... Just make a ?"Vulcan Salute" with your hand and loop your working end once around your 3rd and 4th fingers. Clamp the loop and the standing part with these fingers. ... It works with either hand, we're showing the right hander's version. If you're a leftie, just do the mirror opposite. ... Then pass your line around the back of your hand and make the bowline as usual (up the hole, round the standing part, back down the hole). Just follow the shape of your hand as you go round . Works for me, anyway. .... Live Long and Prosper. ...

SOMETHING TO BE AWARE OF: Singlehanded Docking Stern To with Lazy Lines In this video Nick gives a quick note that if you're chartering a Bavaria 51, you must take note of. This is video 6 in Nicks step by step singlehanded Docking To/With Lazy Lines =========================== Watch the full video here - https://youtu.be/-OPs960oR88 =========================== Transcript Now the Bavaria 51 is a twin rudder boat. so that means we do not have the luxury of being able to push water straight over our rudder. So it does not react when we put it in forward straight away and want to change the direction of the yacht. It's something to be aware of when you're chartering or sailing. =========================== Filmed and Edited by Mahina Hathaway and Nick Hathaway, 45 Degrees Sailing Looking to sail in Croatia?
