Veli Rat is a protected landscape area on the island of Dugi Otok, best known for its impressive lighthouse. Built in 1849, the lighthouse rises about 42 meters high and is considered the tallest on the Adriatic coast. Its distinctive yellow exterior is surrounded by a local legend claiming that thousands of egg yolks were used in the construction of the facade mixture. Within the lighthouse grounds you’ll also find a small chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas, which has become an increasingly popular spot for intimate and romantic weddings.
