đĒĸ Sunday Boat Tip [13/52] đĒĸ These are the apps we use to make our anchor life a little bit smoother and get a little piece of mind at night! Do you use these too or do you have other favorites that should be added to the list, let us know in the comments! đēī¸ Navionics The app which we use for navigation. When itâs time to anchor, we use it to find a good spot and as we drop the anchor the one at the helm pushes the pin button creating a marker for the anchor location. âī¸ Anchor Pro An app which works as an anchor alarm. We use the position from the Navionics marker and type it into the Anchor Pro app. There is an error margin as we get the position at the helm and the anchor is at the bow, but it works well enough! We then put in an allowed radius depending on the amount of chain and general surroundings. The app sounds an alarm if we go outside that radius. Itâs not necessary to have the Pro version, but it allows for the app to send notifications to other units if the alarm goes off. đŦ Telegram Itâs an app for chats and communication. For us, we use it to communicate with the Anchor Pro app. As long as we have internet onboard we can send a message in the Telegram app to the unit running the Anchor Pro and we get an instant reply with anchor distance and bearing. We also get instant notifications if there is an alarm. đMarine Traffic Itâs an app for watching world wide AIS targets. As long as we leave the AIS running (and we are not in a too remote place) then we can watch our boat's position on here. If sh*t were to go really bad and Linnea would for some reason leave the anchorage without us, we could in theory track and find our boat this way. Donât forget to save this post and share it with a friends who needs to see this đĢļđŧ
When the ocean delivers, it really delivers. When dolphins choose to ride alongside sailboats, it's the most amazing experience. One we never get tired of seeing. Dolphins always make an already amazing sail even more so. This pod of dolphins put on a real show for us. What we find amazing is how they can choose to make their presence known, and then just like that, they're gone! One of the many examples of how the ocean is such a beautiful but vast and wild place. What a privilege to see these incredible mammals and what a way to end the year! We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te TÄiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealandâs pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. TÄiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. TÄiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, âa comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows thereâ. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on TÄiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealandâs category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel
Before we start Sailing Samantas, our diy sailboat building project which happens to be a Colombia 10.7 down to the new marina, we needed to move the cradle to it's new home at Chipman Point. As part of this diy sailboat build I'm considering turning my cradle into a sailboat trailer. this will be a diy cradle building side project. https://www.patreon.com/sailing_samantas https://paypal.me/SailingSamantas?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US
