Color changing is common in marine organisms, but tanning is extremely rare. Scientists from the University of Hawai'i discovered that the juvenile scalloped hammerhead sharks in Kaneohe Bay were tanning in the shallow, clear reef waters! (Lowe & Lowe, 1996). There's a ton of boat down in George Town, Bahamas in January and February. We made it down here early spring last year and there were far less boats. I think we were told that during the cruisers regatta, there can be in upwards of 300 boats down here. Anyways, the cruising community down here is amazing. There's a regular cruisers net in the morning. They have rum tastings, volleyball, Texas Hold Em and lots of kids related activities.
