A dream come true for short filmmakers ??? Filmmaker in Chief is a one-of-a-kind opportunity giving artists across the country the chance to win up to $50,000 to direct, produce and edit a short film while living rent-free at in Lower Manhattan. The recipient of this unique creative residency will also be given a monthly living stipend, access to pre-production resources and a full editing suite. We're giving our Filmmaker in Chief full creative freedom with just one requirement: their film must feature Lower Manhattan, whether as a backdrop for a dramatic short, the subject of a documentary or simply a (visible) source of inspiration. Anyone who has walked the winding, historic streets of this neighborhood already knows that it feels like being dropped onto a movie set. We're excited to see how the winning filmmaker brings that reality to the big screen. We are accepting submissions - in the form of a 3-5 page written treatment and a 1-minute video submission - until February 16th. Learn more and apply today at filmdowntown.nyc

Marcus Samuelsson's advice for young chefs? "Be curious. Dive in." Ahead of our upcoming episode of Dine Around Downtown: Cooking at Home, we sat down with Chef Marcus to ask him about everything from his new restaurant and long career, to his thoughts on how to be a great cook and opinions on plating tweezers. The full interview will be included in our upcoming episode of Dine Around Downtown: Cooking at Home. Premiering on March 20, the episode will see host Rocco DiSpirito join Chef Marcus Samuelsson in the kitchen at his beautiful new restaurant, Metropolis, at the Perelman Performing Arts Center. The two James Beard Award-winning chefs will guide virtual audiences through recreating Chef Marcus's signature Arctic Char recipe. Pre-registering for the event grants participants an exclusive two-week viewing period of the episode, before it is made available to the general public. Registrants also are eligible to win a dinner for two at Metropolis by Marcus Samuelsson, and a signed cookbook from Chef Marcus and Chef Rocco! Don't miss out on watching this dynamic dining duo at work - register today: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dine-around-downtown-cook-along-with-metropolis-chef-marcus-samuelsson-tickets-815959495817

If you've ever found yourself landlocked on a hot summer day, wishing you knew someone who had a boat, we've got good news for you. In Lower Manhattan, the "someone with a boat" is actually the South Street Seaport Museum, which offers delightful, two-hour sailing trips on its 1885 schooner, Pioneer. We set sail on the 19-century vessel last week for a sunset ride, taking in the historic sights and relaxing sounds of the New York Harbor. All of the experiences offered on Pioneer are between $20-$70 and are BYOB - a perfect way to live large in the summertime while staying on budget. Find out everything else you can expect from a ride on the schooner on our website at downtownny.com. Bon voyage!
