"Back on my first contract as an Ordinary Seaman (OS), somebody told me to my face, that I wouldn't last 7 years onboard. He said I'd probably get pregnant, get married, work ashore, or just stop sailing eventually. I DID NOT RESPOND. I COUNTERED THROUGH MY ACTIONS. And in time, I rose above it. Right now, I am a 2nd Officer Trainee onboard and currently on my 8th year of sea service." Together, let us #BreaktheBias in the maritime industry and in all sectors globally. I am in support of today's #IWD2022 celebration ? Video Created by Sveinung Tvedt of Grieg Maritime Group Video Credits to Grieg Maritime Group
After a few months, nakapag-upload na ulit ng bagong video sa aking Youtube Channel. Napakahaba ng journey na dinaanan ko to gain confidence ulit para mag.upload. Pero finally, I am here and I hope you all watch this video I put together about "My Bagyong Odette Story" Hindi naman bago sa ating lahat na nasalanta ang lugar namin ng Bagyong Odette and in fact, sa lahat ng naexperience kong bagyo, isa ito sa pinakamalakas at mapaminsala. So, without futher ado. Please watch my video. Don't forget to like and subscribe ?

Hello 3rd, time for another video. So I already made a video on the daily equipment test so its time to discuss about the weekly and monthly equipment test of our GMDSS Station. Click here to watch: https://youtu.be/-dJeBRuLzTg HOW TO CONDUCT DAILY EQPT TEST OF THE GMDSS Watch the video for the details. And follow these gentle reminders: ? Do not forget to log your entries on the Radio Log and as much as possible compile all the test result printouts in one folder. Your effort will be gone to waste if you do not have a record about it because these records are the one the the inspectors and auditors need. ? Weekly test is additional to daily. Personally, I usually do my equipment tests on Saturday together with my tests on the LSA & FFE. This means that on a Saturday, I have to do both daily plus monthly equipment testing. Same goes with monthly. ? One common thing that often gets mislooked is the signature. Remeber that Master should sign and stamp the radio log weekly AND at the end of every page. So if the week ends in the middle of the page, you have to have sign and stamp on the middle and another one at the end of the page. So I hope you learned something from me today. Thank you for watching. Don't forget show some love by the like, comment, share and subscribe ??????

VLOG # 9- HOW TO REPLACE H.R.U. FOR EPIRB-VDR | HOW TO BE A THIRD MATE SERIES | SHOWANDTELL SHAWNTEL
One thing special about our VDR onboard is that it has a float-free EPIRB for emergency situtations. That being said, the EPIRB comes with a Hydrostatic Release Unit for it's release mechanism. The HRU basically has the same function with the HRU for iferafts but the mounting of this one is different because it suits and clicks inside the casing of the EPIEB-VDR. Hope you learn something on this video.

VLOG # 8 - How to Bind a Fire Hose Watch the latest upload on my Youtube Channel as part of the #HowToBeAThirdMateSeries where I show you, with the help of my bsn, how to bind a fire hose. I was inspired to do this video because during my last order of fire fighting equipment, I requested a fire hose with nakijima couple attached. However during delivery, the hose and the coupling were separated and I had to bind it manually. I watched my other third mates do it before, and they taught me well. Now that I have my vlog on Youtube, I made this video so other #ThirdOfficers or #Soontobe Thirds can refer to. I am not saying I am perfect at my job but I was want to share to the most of my capacity so others can learn too. Things to prepare: ? Fire Hose Binding Device ? Fire Hose ? Coupling ? Pliers ? Wrench & bolt (13) ? Electrical Tape Step-by-step guide on the video. You can watch it here.
Our vessel Star Livorno goes to Livorno, Italy This is not our home port but our vsl is named after Livorno Italy, used to be a small city in Central Italy but is now one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean Area. Due to the pandemic, we were not able to go out and visit the beautiful Livorno. This is a video montage of our stay in Italy. The first time I came here, I was onboard Kai Xuan -- another general cargo vsl under our fleet. I hope and pray this pandemic will be over soon so wr can all go out and visit outside again.

Hello everyone! Welcome to another video on my #HowToBeAThirdMateSeries ????? VLOG # 4 - HOW TO CONDUCT ANNUAL FIRE HOSE TEST Requirements for Annual Testing and Maintenance can be found in MSC.1/Circ 1432. 7.1 Fire mains, fire pumps, hydrants, hoses and nozzles ? Visually inspect all accessible components for proper condition; ? Flow test all fire pumps for proper pressure and capacity. Test emergency fire pump with isolation valves closed; ? test all hydrant valves for proper operation; ?pressure test a sample of fire hoses at the maximum fire main pressure, so that all fire hoses are tested within five years; ? verify all fire pump relief valves, if provided, are properly set; ? examine all filters/strainers to verify they are free of debris and contamination; and ? nozzle size/type correct, maintained and working. Note ?? It is not necessary to test all fire hoses onboard annually. The regulation states that you can test random fire hoses annually, just make sure to test all of them within five years. However, I did test all fore hoses during my annual for my own assurance and for everyone's safety. Risk Assessment should be done prior conducting this job because there are risks when you take out the fire hoses from it's stowing position. Just make sure to return the fire hoses immediately on the day, so mitigate the risk imposed.
Hi guys, so here's another video on my #HowToBeAThirdMateSeries My latest video is about installing our MOB Smoke & Light Signal. Our MOB Smoke & Light Signal may vary from your but the installation process will somewhat be similar. So here are a few tips and guidelines when installing the apparatus. ? Always read, study and understand the instructions manual before starting the job. ? Understand how the Smoke & Light Signal is triggered so you can identify the areas to protecr and avoid. ? Make sure to seek professional judgement by your superiors when in doubt. ? Mount the Smoke & Light Signal where vibrations from ships is least. ? Make sure to double check SOLAS regulations regarding MOB Ring and Smoke & Light Signal conforms with the regulation (which is unlikely, but just in case) Hope this video will be of any help to you guys. I hope you enjoyy.
#HowToBeAThirdMateSeries Here are some pointers for all #ThirdOfficers and #SafetyMaintenanceOfficers ? Check that the Portable Fire Extinguisher is visible and unobstructed. ? Check the if the locking pin is still intact and the seal is not broken. ? Check the guage or pressure indicator. ? Check the physical appearance (incl corroded parts and obstructions on the nozzle) ? Check the inspection tag ?? Additional info for Dry Power P.F.E., the dry powder has the tendency to settle at the bottom. So it is advisable to shake the PFE during your monthly inspection. ---- Personal note: Finally had the courage to upload an instructional video. This is the best I can do for a vlog. My friends have been telling me to start vlogging about my work onboard and I just didn't have the courage to do so. So for my first video, I just want to show everyone how I do my monthly inspection and maintenance of all 93 Fire Fighting Equipment onboard. I hope you like my video ? And you can comment below ?????? For any safety maintenance video requests that you want me to explain. Also tagging my #Scandia Family @scandiagear for my PPE ?? #ScanMicroflex ? #ScanRally ?? #ScanSandals ? #ScanSonix ? #ScanCenturion ?????
