We left Vanuatu with a little concern about safety in Papua New Guinea as many government websites warned about unsafe conditions. We also considered going via Australia, but that did not make much sense.
When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with Port Moresby city skyline and nice Royal Papua Yacht Club. Our main goal was to get Indonesian Visa here as in a week starts our Indonesian Rally. Meanwhile we explored surroundings – Ela Beach, Nature Park, Papua New Guinea Museum and Port Moresby as well. Everyone was very nice with us and happy to assist although every shop had a lot of security and while having dinner with local sailors in a yacht Club we heard many sketchy stories that it is indeed dangerous.
We got visa quickly and we were ready to leave but as soon as we left Royal Papua Yacht Club we’ve got hit by 30+ knots of wind right against us! Not the best start for our second longest – 1,500NM / 9 day sail to Indonesia, Timur Island… Join us!
