Crossing The Gulf Stream From Fort Lauderdale To Bimini: Battling Anxiety (ep 7)
After a solar installation at Just Catamarans in Fort Lauderdale, we drove over from Sarasota, picked up Sam from the Airport, filled with fuel, stored our car at the airport and waited for the weather window to make our way to Bimini. This was the first time Sherine is Crossing the Gulf Stream. We normally wouldn't intentionally leave at dark but since I was somewhat familiar with Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, we decided it would be ok.
Once we exited Port Everglades, Sherine went to bed. Sam went to bed about 1am and around 3:00am, I woke Sherine up to take us the rest of the way.
We had contemplated the decision to leave quite a bit, given the weather reports from Chris Parker and his team. Upon looking, studying, and looking again at the PredictWind forecasts, we decided that our passage would be ok. It turned out to be fine. Not nearly as rough as some forecasts were predicting and no significant weather.
We got in the vicinity of Bimini around 4am. Rather than navigate an unknown, unlit and poorly marked channel at night, we raised our quarantine flag, anchored and got some Z's until light.
Thanks for watching!
